Reminder: All Samsung flagships launched in 2014 and later will get Marshmallow

Samsung launched a beta program for Android 6.0 Marshmallow on the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge last week, and we have been seeing a lot of comments from our readers about whether the Galaxy S5 or other Samsung flagships will be getting the Marshmallow update. We thought it would be a good idea to answer that question by reminding everyone that Samsung updates all its flagship devices to two major new versions of Android.

It’s a tradition the company has always followed, and every flagship since the original Galaxy S has gone from the version of Android they came with out of the box to two newer versions. For the Galaxy S5, that’s Android 6.0, as it came out with Android 4.4 KitKat and Lollipop has been its only big update until now. As we had revealed a couple of months earlier, work on Android 6.0 for the S5 has already started, and the same goes for the Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge. Variants of these devices, like the Galaxy S5 LTE-A or the Galaxy S5 or S6 Active, will also be in line for 6.0.

Basically, if you buy a Galaxy flagship, you can rest assured your device will see the two major versions of the OS that come out after the phone’s launch. Of course, there’s never any information on when Samsung will roll out an update, but any flagship launched after 2014 is sure to get at least Android 6.0 before their maker ceases major software support.

While you’re waiting, check out Marshmallow on the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge here!

Reminder: All Samsung flagships launched in 2014 and later will get Marshmallow

I am really upset when i read that note 3 SM 9005 wont get the marshmallow update since lollipop is so buggy i really think that note 3 deserves the marshmallow after all it has the hardware for it

Why not note 3???this device is capable.
I think in place of update iphone is the best they provides updates to their all device

samsung must provide it’s strong devices with marshmallow update like galaxy note 3 sm-n900 , sm-n9005 , s4 ..etc. I think the only disadvantage in samsung is about update ..
I will be very happy if samsung provides these devices with lollipop 5.1.1 update at least (specially note 3)

Samsung must provide marshmallow update for galaxy note 3 sm-n900 and sm-n9005. We are still on android 5.0 and it has so many bugs they need to provide the marshmallow update for us !

Samsung doesn’t need to provide the Note 3 with Marshmallow, they could just give you 5.1.1 with the bug fixes.

r1998
r1998

Samsung hasn’t fixed any bugs in android 5.1.1. they must provide android 6.0.1. marshmallow update to galaxy note 3 SM-N900 !
galaxy note 3 really deserve this marshmallow update !

The latest available firmware for the Note 3 is Android 5… If Samsung decides to release an update for bug fixes, it would make more sense to release 5.1.1 as it would not require a big update. If Samsung decides to release Marshmallow for the Note 3, I doubt that they would be rushing to upload it to their servers.

@Sammobile:
Dont you people realize that Samsung has already lost many (.. more each day..) loyal customers because of how arrogantly they have treated us. Just “reassuring” me that 2014 flagship devices will get Marshmallow is NOT good enough… as usual, there us absolutely no commitment as to WHEN…!!
Big deal..!!
Wake up! We ARE angry..!!

What you and Samsung don’t seem to realise is that it is not the people who own the devices that will get the upgrade who are important but rather the people that Samsung gives a one finger salute to. In my case it is the the Galaxy Note 8 which will never get an update beyond the present KitKat (4.4.2). To my mind Samsung’s motto is, “Flagship today, shafted tomorrow”. My disgust for Samsung translated into my choice for a 28″ 4K monitor for my desktop. I used to buy Samsung (my last three desktop monitors over the past decade… Read more »

İ accept that smartphone industry has a huge consumers and manufacturers want to sell their new phones but what’s the problem with old phones. We (android users) always saying that Apple is bad but the thing is they’re supporting their old phones. Samsung is not doing this. I couldn’t understand that why they didn’t give us Note 5 UI? Why s4 and note 3 don’t take Marshmallow? Samsung is really bad about the uptades. For android users Sony and nexus devices would be better choice . Honestly Apple is the best about uptades and supports to their old phones.

Well, I owned the GT-I9300, also known as the Galaxy S3, it was a so called “flag ship” back then, and was a great Smartphone, it began in ICS, then they upgraded to Jellybean, and forgot about the device, never made it to KitKat officially. Other developers accomplished a “stock” rom but Samsung never did, because of bloatware….So much for the tradition.

There was a 4.4.3 update released in Canada i747m Just at the end of the winter of 2015 so it indeed mean and nasty and crappy that Samsung left you all out in the cold, stuck at 4.3.

What about the Galaxy S3 Neo+ (GT-I9301I)? It was released in 2014 an it’s definitely capable to run Lollipop at least. But I guess Samsung doesn’t give a single fuck about Neo-devices. My Neo+ never got any major updates.

S2 came with 2.3., then 2.3.6 then upgraded to 4.0.4 then 4.1.2
So by the same logic, s4 came with 4.2.2, upgraded to 4.4, then 5.0.1, so s4 should get at least 5.1 if not, 6.0

At some point, eventually. oops sorry your support window has expired.

Since the S5 is over a years old, it would be great if the S5 users could also get the latest ‘Touchwiz’ ui design & useful features like the S6 & Note 5 has on Android 6.0.
