    Introduction

More than a year and a half after the Galaxy Tab S8, Samsung launched the Galaxy Tab S9 series in late 2023. Like the Galaxy Tab S8 lineup, the Tab S9 series has three models, and the Galaxy Tab S9 is the smallest and cheapest of them all. It is also the one that has received the biggest upgrade.

    Design

The Galaxy Tab S9 has exactly the same design as the Tab S8. It is still made using aluminum, but it now features an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance. The one visible change from the outside is the design of the rear camera layout. The Galaxy Tab S8 only has one rear camera, and it has a distinct ring around it, similar to the Galaxy S23 and most devices Samsung is launching in 2023.

There is also a change that won't be visible in day-to-day life but will still come in very handy. The S Pen that comes bundled with the Galaxy Tab S9 and attaches magnetically at the back can now charge wirelessly in any orientation. On the Galaxy Tab S8, S Pen could charge wirelessly in just one orientation. Moreover, even the S Pen has IP68 certification for dust and water resistance.

    Specifications

The Galaxy Tab S9 features the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 For Galaxy chip, 8GB/12GB RAM, and 128GB/256GB storage. The tablet also features a microSD card slot for further storage expansion. The battery capacity has increased by 400mAh compared to the Galaxy Tab S8. This should result in a slightly longer battery life.

The Galaxy Tab S9 is also compatible with the new S Pen Creator Edition. It has a more grippy surface and a wider tilt angle that makes it easier to draw. The S Pen Creator Edition is sold separately.

    Display and Cameras

The Galaxy Tab S9's display measures 11 inches diagonally. It has a Dynamic AMOLED 2X screen with QHD+ resolution, a 120Hz variable refresh rate, and HDR10+. It also features Vision Booster, which offers better colors in outdoor conditions. It is a major upgrade from the IPS LCD display used in the Galaxy Tab S8. The tablet has four speakers, and they are 20% larger than the ones on the Galaxy Tab S8. The Galaxy Tab S9 also features Dolby Atmos audio.

The Galaxy Tab S9 has a single camera on the rear instead of two on the Galaxy Tab S8. It uses the same 13MP primary rear camera as the Galaxy Tab S8 but misses out on the 6MP ultrawide camera that is present on the Galaxy Tab S8. On the front, it has the same 12MP ultrawide camera as the Galaxy Tab S8. Both front and rear cameras on the Galaxy Tab S9 can record up to 4K 60fps videos.

    Software and features

The Galaxy Tab S9 runs Android 13 and One UI 5.1.1 out of the box, the same as the new foldable phones that Samsung announced alongside the new tablets. The Galaxy Tab S9 and its siblings will get four major OS upgrades after launch and five years of security updates.

    Availability and price

The Galaxy Tab S9 has a starting price of $799/£799/€899 for the variant with 8GB RAM and 128GB storage. The tablet was announced on July 26, 2023, and it will start shipping to customers on August 11, 2023, in most countries worldwide. The tablet is available in two colors: Beige and Graphite.
