Next year Samsung flagship to have 16MP camera, Note III won’t have optical image stabilization?

Samsung currently has 16-megapixel cameras on its smartphones, but those are all devices that are odd amalgamations of camera and smartphone with a protruding sensor at the back. But that might change as early as next year according to a new report, when Samsung will begin using 16-megapixel cameras on its flagship smartphones, such as the inevitable Galaxy S5.

The report claims that Samsung is in the middle of developing a 16-megapixel sensor that will include optical image stabilization (OIS). However, anyone looking forward to having OIS on the Galaxy Note III might be disappointed, as Samsung has reportedly been unable to obtain enough OIS-enabled sensors from its vendors and hence has decided to cut the feature out from its next phablet.

With the Galaxy S4, Samsung proved that it can eke out great image quality from a standard 13-megapixel sensor, so it will be interesting to see what these new 16MP sensors are capable of. As for the Note III, it's not long before we'll find out whether it packs OIS in its camera, so let's just refrain from speculating too much on that front.
