Galaxy S8 to get Android 10 update after all?

Samsung’s customer care reps are doing it again and raising hopes that a Galaxy flagship may actually end up getting a third major Android OS upgrade. A disgruntled Galaxy S8 owner reached out to Samsung customer care to ask why their phone will not be getting updated to Android 10 and was told that the Android 10 update is planned for the device.

The customer rep did not provide any further info, and given the poor track record Samsung’s customer care has had over the years in matters like these, it’s hard to believe the Galaxy S8 and S8+ will get Android 10. Of course, it would be awesome if it did, but there’s a much higher chance of this being a false alarm. Providing the Galaxy S8 and S8+ with a third Android version upgrade would also open a can of worms for Samsung, as owners of other Galaxy devices would start demanding that they receive the Android 10 update as well.

Again, it would be great if Samsung finally ends its tradition of only providing its devices with two big Android updates, especially those in the flagship segment. But we would suggest being skeptical until there’s more concrete evidence that the Galaxy S8 will get Android 10. We have reached out to Samsung on the matter and will let you know as soon as the company gets back to us.

Lmao so many crying about not getting a third OS update or they’re going to apple🤣😂 same old song and dance, trust me Samsung isn’t worried if you go especially since they manufacture a majority of their parts lol. Hey at least apple is finally getting features android users have had for years now lol. Good luck to you..

It would be a REALLY GREAT new!

And a great step ahead for Samsung flagship products to have a three year update schedule.

Crossing fingers, but not really believing it will become true, unfortunately…

I have all notes since no.1. I also bought the note 10+ and is a great device. But If my note 8 does not receive Android 10, for the first time, I will try apple iphone 12 next October. Flagship devices MUST BE on a 3year major update schedule for the price they cost. Unfortunately this shows how much Samsung does not value its products. If they want to compete with apple, then they should compete on all levels. I know many people, being an educator and I have seen many people leave Samsung for Apple solely because of their… Read more »

Hope they will. I think Huawei is doing way better with updates. Last year i had P20 pro and it was getting android in november. This year Mate 10 pro will get Android 10 !!!! that is the 3`d big update for MATE 10 pro. When the trade war ends i will go back to Huawei again. Or i will try Iphone. Impresed by Apple the way they keep updating my Ipad. I have been on Galaxy Phones since ver. 1. But with the prices they want these dayes i would expect minimum 3 big ones. We cant just keep… Read more »

For the price Samsung charges for their flagship phones they should provide three years of major Android operating system updates. If Samsung does not provide an additional Android system update to my Galaxy S8 then I will be getting an iPhone 12 5G handset when they come out October 2020. Say what you want about Apple at least they provide many years of major iOS updates for all of their devices.

Stop torturing us, please. If there are confirmed information that S8(+), Note8 will get Android 10, publish it.
Thank you.

No. Samsung have not started writing Android 10 for 2017 flagships yet. It would have started if they had been willing to do so when considering the fact that Android 10 beta updates for 2018 flagships are around the corner.

Hi there! Thank you for reaching out to us. Regrettably, we are unable to speculate on release dates. However, we advise you to keep the auto-update option enable to receive the update as soon as it is available for your device. ^Nika

I said it once and I repeat it again, Samsung is changing its paradigms in upgrading OS terms
We can see this with S8 getting the BETA for Android 10 + One UI 2.0. I think the actual rolling of the final and complete OS update is going to be May or June next year being a 2017 flagship.

Didn’t they say the same about S6 getting Oreo early last year? We saw how far that went, lol

Exactly, spreading false rummors to buy some extra time until they can act that your phone is too old. Same story with the S6 and S7. But I took the hint that they don’t care anymore and I will vote with my wallet. Actions have consequences.

🙄 Und da muss man einfach sehen WAS kommt. Den Grund für die Beschwerde “des” Kunden, nämlich, dass Samsung seine “Flaggschiffe” bislang LEDIGLICH im GLEICHEN Umfang “pflegt”… Read more »

” as owners of other Galaxy devices would start demanding that they receive the Android 10 update as well” I mean… this could happen with any update for other devices we don’t own. But for the S8 being a flagship from Samsung, I’d totally agree with an Android 10 update.
In fact, for me, the S8 not getting the Android 10 update would be bad for the company as it shows that 1000$ flagship phones will only have support for 2 years, whitch is totally wrong since the device can support the update.

The least they should do is bump the full support with one year to 3 + 1 more security. Apple is currently on 5-6 full support + they released this summer security update for iphone 5 and 4s (2011 and 2012 models, i.e. 7-8 years old). They ask for apple prices, they should support their phones better. Long gone are the times when the best android phone was half the price of an iphone and 2 years of support was ok.

Can’t compare iOS which has considerably less number of devices to update. Yeah, they’re increasing year by year, but it’s still minute and, let’s be honest, virtually the same phone every year.

doomsurvivor12
doomsurvivor12

Not only that. As a previous owner of iOS devices, each update considerably brings down an iPhone’s performance, most notably at its 3rd major update and onwards.

I have note 9, iphone pro max and iphone 6s. You don’t know what you are talking about – the 6s is fast and smooth on ios13 and is 2015 device (over 4 years old). 🙂 Also we as a customers should NOT care about how many devices samsung produces, this one is on them. I paid for my note 9 the same price that xs max was, it’s normal to expect the same support for my money as both phones got a very decent build quality and hardware. The reasons why are always there, same as excuses, but: 1)… Read more »
