Galaxy Z Fold 3 who? We already have a Galaxy Z Fold 4 wishlist

The Galaxy Z Fold 3 brings a lot of improvements over the Galaxy Z Fold 2, including a stronger and sleeker build, an IPX8 rating for water resistance, a faster processor, and an under-panel selfie camera. The smartphone even brings S Pen compatibility to fill the void left by the Galaxy Note series. However, we think that Samsung could make its flagship foldable smartphone even better with a few changes, so here's our wishlist for the Galaxy Z Fold 4.

A telephoto camera with at least 3x optical zoom

Samsung, a 2x telephoto camera isn't going to cut it on a smartphone that costs $1,800 in 2021, even if it has a foldable screen. Telephoto cameras are great for quickly snapping up pictures and videos of interesting or useful things around you, such as pets, children, or signboards. It doesn't have to be a 5x or 10x periscope camera like the ones used in the Galaxy S20 Ultra and the Galaxy S21 Ultra. However, we think that Samsung's next Galaxy Z Fold phone should definitely have a telephoto camera with at least 3x optical zoom.

    A better under-panel selfie camera

Galaxy Z Fold 3 under display camera

One of the main talking points of the Galaxy Z Fold 3 is its 4MP under-panel selfie camera. We've already shown you the quality difference between the phone's regular 10MP selfie camera and the 4MP under-panel camera. Yes, there's definitely room for improvement in terms of image quality.

Samsung also needs to improve how the display area covering the under-panel camera appears. The under-display camera on the Galaxy Z Fold 3 can be easily spotted. In comparison, it is hard to spot the under-display camera on the ZTE Axon 30 5G and the Xiaomi Mi MIX 4. With the Galaxy Z Fold 4, Samsung should improve the image quality as well as the appearance of the under-panel camera.

A wider cover display (and, in turn, a dedicated S Pen silo?)

Compared to the original Galaxy Fold, Samsung has immensely improved the cover display on its flagship foldable phones. The Galaxy Z Fold 3 has a bigger cover display with slimmer bezels and a 120Hz refresh rate. However, we still feel that it needs to be a bit wider for easier for typing and performing day-to-day tasks. If the cover display gets wider, maybe Samsung will find enough room inside the Galaxy Z Fold 4 for a dedicated S Pen silo, something that many consumers have been demanding.

    An S Pen-compatible cover display

Samsung has added S Pen compatibility to the Galaxy S21 Ultra and the Galaxy Z Fold 3. However, only the inner display of the Galaxy Z Fold 3 is compatible with the S Pen. Adding S Pen compatibility to the cover display would make the phone more useful, especially when you have to jot down things quickly.

Imagine a situation where your Galaxy Z Fold device is in your pocket, and you have to note down someone's contact number. With the Galaxy Z Fold 3, you have to take out the phone from your pocket, unfold it, remove the S Pen from its holster, and then write on the inner display. If the cover display is S Pen-compatible, it will reduce one step from the whole process and accessing the Screen Off Memo feature would be easier.

    Less visible screen crease

A visible screen crease could put off some customers who are interested in buying a foldable phone. We had expected the Galaxy Z Fold 3 to have a less pronounced screen crease when compared to the Galaxy Z Fold 2. However, there hasn't been any improvement on that front. We expect Samsung to work on decreasing the screen crease with its next Galaxy Z Fold smartphone so that it looks and feels more like a normal smartphone.

If Samsung can bring these improvements with the Galaxy Z Fold 4, it will be a huge improvement over the Galaxy Z Fold 3. It could attract even more consumers and expand the foldable market.

What improvements do you want to see on the Galaxy Z Fold 4 whenever it arrives? Let us know down in the comments!

Why you’ll likely want to leave the Galaxy Z Fold 4 behind this year

Last year, you may have decided to skip the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and keep using your Galaxy Fold 4.
