Galaxy S20 series picks up the September 2021 security update

It might be a busy time for Samsung's software development teams as they prepare for the incoming Android 12 and One UI 4.0 beta program for the Galaxy S21 series, but that isn't putting a dent in the company's plans to rollout security updates for its smartphones as quickly as possible. The September 2021 security update started rolling out recently for a couple of Galaxy devices, including the Galaxy S20 FE and Samsung's 2020 foldables, and it is now arriving on the Galaxy S20 lineup.

The Galaxy S20, S20+, and S20 Ultra are receiving new updates in some parts of Europe today. The firmware version accompanying these updates is G98xxXXSADUH5, and it's a pretty boring release, with just security enhancements included in the package. More boring than the One UI 3.1.1 update that was released for the Galaxy S20 series recently and barely brought any new features or improvements with it.

Of course, that's not necessarily a bad thing, what with the One UI 4.0 beta on the horizon. While the Galaxy S21 series will be first in line to get the One UI 4.0 beta, Samsung is highly likely to extend testing to the Galaxy S20 series and many other flagships and some mid-range phones. Just how soon that will be remains to be seen, though.

If you own a Galaxy S20, S20+, or S20 Ultra, you can check if the September security update is available for your device from the phone's Settings » Software update menu. Our firmware archive stands ready to assist you if you wish to upgrade your phone manually using a Windows PC, though we would recommend backing up your data before attempting to do so (which, to be honest, is a good practice no matter how you may choose to update your Galaxy device).
