Samsung confirms what its new artificial intelligence virtual assistant will be called

We have been hearing for a few months now that Samsung has developed a new artificial intelligence-powered virtual assistant that it’s going to introduce with the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus. Previous reports have suggested that this virtual assistant is going to be called Bixby.

Samsung appears to have confirmed the name of its new virtual assistant on its Italian website. The updated privacy information page not only confirms that the artificial intelligence virtual assistant will be called Bixby but also that it will eventually make its way to non-flagship Samsung handsets as well.

Bixby is believed to be more capable than its rivals that include the likes of Siri and Cortana. It may have support for up to 8 languages at launch as well. Samsung will provide more information about all of the features that it offers when the Galaxy S8 is formally announced.

The Galaxy S8 is due to be unveiled at an event in London and New York City on March 29.

More capable than Siri or Cortana? Good one, why would you set yourself up with these high expectations, just to get disappointed again?

Only because Bixby might come with some additional features to use the camera to search for prices of objects it may recognize (Amazon Fire phone anyone?) doesnt make it better or faster in the core functions of an virtual assistant.

The tech behind S-Voice was also from Viv labs and we all know how that turned out.

“The tech behind Siri was also from [the founders of] Viv labs and we all know how that turned out.”

FTFY … and it is true, by the way. Siri and Bixby are creations by the same founders, Dag Kittlaus, Adam Cheyer and Chris Brigham. Apple bought Siri, Samsung bought Viv’s product and are naming it Bixby.

If what you’ve said about Siri and Cortana is accurate, then they aren’t at all setting high expectations. In fact, to the contrary!

Hopefully it’s not region locked, as if your language is not supported your not using it.
If Samsung want to play this right please let users use English if their native language is not supported.
