Here’s what to do if you can’t remember the lock screen password for your Samsung smartphone

So you’ve just got your hands on a shiny new Samsung smartphone, blasted through the setup process, and in the heat of the moment forgotten your password for the lock screen. What do you do? First thing’s first, don’t panic. Tons of people have been in the exact same position before, and plenty more will follow in the future. That’s why Samsung (and Android itself) has made it extremely easy to reset your passcode and regain access to your phone.

Method 1: Unlock using your Google Account

  1. If you’ve entered an incorrect password more than 20 times, you will be prompted to enter your Google credentials. Simply input your email address and password, then head over to your Gmail inbox and confirm the login.
  2. Once you’ve logged in, you’ll have the facility to change your backup password. Ensure you change it to something memorable this time, though, as there is a cap on the amount of times you can reset your password using this method.

If, for whatever reason, you can’t authenticate your device using your Google Account, you will have to use Samsung’s Find My Mobile service. Full instructions on how to do this can be seen below.

Method 2: Unlock using Find My Mobile

  1. To unlock your handset using Samsung’s Find My Mobile platform, head over to its official website by clicking here.
  2. Log in using the Samsung account you created when you first got your hands on your smartphone. Of course, this requires that you would have logged in to a Samsung account instead of skipping it.
  3. Once on the dashboard, hit the button entitled Unlock my Device.
  4. Ensure that the phone is turned on and is connected to the Internet either via Wi-Fi or through an active data connection.
  5. Click OK to the pop-up that appears on the website.

Your phone will now communicate with Find my Mobile and after a few minutes should remotely unlock. Now you’re going to want to head into the device’s Settings and create a new password.

I installed quick toggle’s buttons for my lock-screen & notification shade, but that was from an app. Has made my phone super to use, faster access to often used settings & apps, & productivity is way better now. Tho this won’t help u as you need to install this first. I’m afraid a factory reset is all thats left…

I have forgotten my lock screen password and I am aware of both the methods but both WiFi and Mobile Data are switched off on my S6 Edge. Can you please advise a method in which either I can unlock my device or just turn on WiFi or Mobile Data so that I don’t have to resort to Factory Reset to unlock my phone, which I don’t want to do as I will lose all my data. I have already contacted the Local Samsung Service Center and they have suggested that I factory reset my phone.

That used to work on previous versions of touchwiz but on newer versions only 3-4 options are available, namely power, restart, flight mode and emergency mode. I had used the method you said on a previous occassion on my old Samsung phone.

In my experience with TouchWiz on my Galaxy S6, even with fingerprint lock enabled with a password, I am still able to pull down the notification shade and toggle the quick toggle buttons. Have you tried using the quick toggles from the notification shade? If not, try that…

I tried doing that too but only a few of the toggles work with the screen locked. The sound, power saving and flight mode are some of the few that work. When I press either the WiFi or Mobile Data ones it comes back to the lock screen and asks for the password. Try and check on your phone and please do reply if you have any other solution.
