Exclusive: The Galaxy S7 will feature a USB Type-C port

It might not come as a surprise to some, but our sources have confirmed that the Galaxy S7 will come with a USB Type-C port instead of a standard microUSB port. USB Type-C has been making a lot of headlines this year, and for all the right reasons. A USB Type-C port uses a reversible cable so it can be plugged in to a device any which way, devices can be charged faster, and Type-C also enables faster data transfer than USB 3.0.

Fast charging is something Samsung has already taken good care of in its latest flagships, so that’s one benefit of a Type-C port that won’t be a highlight on the Galaxy S7. But the reversible cable itself is a good reason for manufacturers to be adopting USB Type-C (Google’s new Nexus phones have a Type-C port), and it’s nice to see the Korean giant will be taking the leap to the innovative USB technology as well.

What is WRONG with this tech Blogs?!?

USB C is a type of connector when USB 3.0 is a generation of USB (speed)

If a device has USB C type port it can still be a USB 2.0

Btw USB 3.0 is already 7 years old, not that 3.0 is slow but 3.1 is out now for 2 years and would be a better aim.

I wonder how much faster will the C-type charge in comparison to usb 3?

Those who are crying about no sd slot should know that these new devices write with so much speed( 64 bit octa core / 4gb DDR4 Ram) that current Sd card technology cannot handle it.If one has tons of movies and music and wants access to all those media all the time then get a dual usb flash drive which has regular usb at one end and micro at other. Most people don’t know samsung phones are competable with flash drives. And who needs removable battery these days.”They call it a “power pack” get a darn power pack so you don’t have to take the back off and keep 3 spare batteries. And those who are missing usb C type so much that they are pissing in their pants “get a fast wireless charger” ..yeah no more cords needed. Its easy to complain they things a company didn’t add and not notice what they have provided.

It seems to me that You are crying.
Are you the son of some Samsung managers?
I have an S5. And I assure you I will not buy this “so much speed” devices.
To do what??
2 milli seconds delay will upset your life? LOL..
And You made me laugh when you talked about “power pack”.
You are so funny.

Please tell to you daddy that He will get fired when S5 owners will get new phones from other brands..

Power pack – such a “brilliant” solution to a self inflicted problem that now requires you to charge and carry around two items whereas before you could just buy an extended battery as a single item, considerably more convenient package.

Well, all these cool features are also available to every 100$ phone, so it appears interesting that a 800$ phone buyer needs to buy the same add-ons…

Every average user is able to connect a SD card to even a S6 of any flavor or Note 5, just by using the existing USB interface.
So probably Samsung engineers should be able to squeeze this into the phone…
I don’t think many people are “crying” that their SD card might not be as fast as internal storage, still it will be way faster than Cloud storage.

What is the excuse to offer a whole line of “premium” phones (to selected regions) but not one with this? They do this intentionally despite knowing about the customer complaints.

It is most likely that the Note 6 will have it too

And for this, some other un-trendy and un-needed features will be sacrificed, let’s say … no more display, and sound, and battery … the phone can be supplied, can be hooked up to a display and loudspeakers over the new usb type c. So the innovation is really worth it!
*sarcasm alert*

to much hate on Samsung and ironically both current flagships sold more than the old ones of last year so stop complaining and simply switch to another company

Don’t worry, we will make Samsung pay for what they’ve done (and for what they have NOT done, too).

what really surprised me is note 5 didn’t feature a usb type c port. that really sucks

1 year 3 months ago

They’re going to have to give up something more to accommodate this. They’ll probably downgrade to a 3.5″ screen or something silly, judging by current Samsunk trends.

If they can bring back the IR blaster and the microSD card thats a big step forward.

Where is the source? Can’t see a link for it

1 year 3 months ago

If you read the story, you would see that it was an “insider” that was the source. Not another story or blog. Kinda hard to link that.

Should we be surprised?
Almost all mid-range China phones include USB type C.
So again Sammy is few steps behind unfortunately…

Let me know when they bring back SD and removable battery…
Till that day, please, keep it in mind: I DO NOT WANT AN IPHONE.
If one day I’ll need an iPhone I’LL BUY IT!

You took the words right out of my mouth.

Another clue for Galaxy S7 might be non-removable battery. I’m fine with that as long as it has micro SD slot.

It better have Fast Charging

Not really a surprise. Waiting for exclusive features.
