We reported last year that Samsung will move to a single-letter naming convention for its smartphones, and it has turned out to be true so far. First, it released the Galaxy A series, and then followed it up with the Galaxy E lineup. Now, Samsung is getting ready to unveil the Galaxy J series, and the first smartphone in the series will be the Galaxy J1 (SM-J100). It appears to have the exact same specifications as we exclusively reported last month. It runs Android 4.4 KitKat and will feature several software features we've seen on Samsung's flagship devices, like Ultra Power Saving Mode. That's not to say the phone will have an AMOLED display, though we sure won't be complaining if it does.

The J1 will also feature 5-megapixel and 2-megapixel rear and front-facing cameras. Other specs of the device should include a 4.3-inch WVGA display, a 1.2GHz 64-bit quad-core Marvell PXA1908 processor, 1GB RAM, 4GB internal storage, microSD card slot, and an 1,850 mAh battery. It will come in four variants – single-SIM LTE, dual-SIM LTE, single-SIM 3G, and dual-SIM 3G, with the 3G variants to feature a VGA front-facing camera instead of a 2-megapixel one.

Overall, the Galaxy J1 doesn't look too different from other budget smartphones from Samsung, but will hopefully offer a better user experience than what we're used to from low-cost devices from the company. The Galaxy J1 could be announced as soon as this week – the January 14 date in the images suggest it could be unveiled this Wednesday, though we will have to wait and see if Samsung really does come out with yet another smartphone so soon after announcing the Galaxy A7, E5 and E7.
