Snapdragon 810 issues to delay launch of the Samsung Galaxy S6?

Next year, the 64-bit Snapdragon 810 chip is expected to power most of the major flagship lineups in the Android World, including the Galaxy S6 as we had earlier reported. However, a report from Business Korea is suggesting that several issues with the Snapdragon 810 could delay the launch of the Galaxy S6 and other flagship devices. One of these issues is that the CPU overheats after reaching a certain voltage and in turn reduces performance considerably through throttling, while another has to do with an error in the Adreno 430 GPU drivers, according to the industry insider quoted by Business Korea.

Now, this is one rumor that should be taken with several pinches of salt, as Qualcomm will likely be able to find fixes for whatever issues the Snapdragon 810 is facing and put them into mass production in time for use in smartphones. Qualcomm doesn’t exactly have a choice – with Apple’s surprising launch of a 64-bit CPU in the iPhone 5s last year, Qualcomm and other chip makers have been working hard and fast to come up with competing high-end chipsets of their own, and such issues will probably not stand in the way of a timely official launch of the Snapdragon 810.

We should remind you that the Galaxy S6 will also have an Exynos variant, powered by the 64-bit Exynos 7420, though Samsung will most likely hold the release of this model if the problems with the Snapdragon 810 aren’t resolved in time by Qualcomm.

I don’t think there are more than 5 percent of total buyers who care about custom roms, just look at downloads hits on each site and total forums members.

Anyone can tell if S5 Exynos version is limited also to 5min video recording in 4K before forced cooling down ? That’s pretty annoying when filming an event on my Snapdragon version.

Is it serious? It will limit You to 5 mins? Glad I missed out S5 and I`m changing my S4 to Note 4.

For the sake of custom roms Snapdragon is better due to its open drivers

Indeed I would rather have the exynos too, let the other oem have crapdragon

samsung should go with exynos 7420 globally and dump crapdragon

Why do they even use the crappy snapdragon all the time. Exynos is way better and doesn’t have those trottling issues. just look at the Note 4 exynos that wins with everything exept ram speed when compared to SD 805. Why wont they just use an exynos only for the S6 with faster ram than the 7410 and a 12 or 16 core version of the mali t760. That would be much better than the overused cheap snapdragons with their shitty adreno GPU’s that only work well in benchmarks but suck when it comes to real 3d games. I mean,… Read more »
