Bell rolls out another update for the Galaxy Note 7 to remind owners that it’s been recalled

It would appear that Canadians aren’t too keen on the idea of chopping in their now-recalled Galaxy Note 7 for a refund or replacement as Bell has started rolling out a second maintenance update for units in the region.

Unlike the previous upgrade, which limited the handset’s battery to 60 percent, this latest build introduces “indicators that encourage customers to contact Samsung regarding the replacement/return of affected devices.”

Although it’s unconfirmed, we expect other operators in Canada to follow in Bell’s footsteps by rolling out similar updates for their carrier-branded variants of the Galaxy Note 7 in the not-too-distant future.

The ironic part about all of these stories, is once Samsung finally decided to end the Note 7 line, there hasn’t been another story of it exploding. Samsung claims to have pulled off over 80% of the Note 7 smartphones out the hands of customers, but that still leaves several hundred thousand out in the wild. Statistically there should be at least one that should have exploded since the official recall. Now it’s all about the S7 and S7 edge exploding. Are we going to hear stories about this until Samsung recalls those too?

I was sad to return my Note 7 but the reality was if something happened in public I could be held responsible since the phone had been officially recalled. I could’t afford to pay for lost revenue if a restaurant had to be cleared. My employer could request that I don’t bring the phone into the office. Still looking for an affordable replacement while I wait for the Note 8. Suggestions?

It’s not that we don’t want to return it. They are making it impossible for some of us to return it!!
