We first revealed details of the Samsung DeX, a smartphone docking solution, four months ago. It was officially unveiled along with Samsung's flagship smartphones for 2017, the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8+. The DeX can turn the Galaxy S8 into a PC-like experience, offering full-screen apps. Apart from stock apps, DeX came with support for third-party apps like Hancom Office, Microsoft Office, Skype, TripAdvisor, and more.

Samsung had announced that it is partnering with more brands to bring optimized apps to the DeX. Now, Daou Office, a communication and cooperation tool by Daou Technology Inc., has brought support for Samsung DeX. After Daou Office is installed on the Galaxy S8, users can dock their device into the DeX and start using its desktop-like UI for editing documents, perform electronic payments, sending instant messages to colleagues, and writing emails.

Daou Technology Inc. is a South Korean firm that provides business and enterprise solutions in offices and servers. Its solutions are used by over 600 firms in the country. Recently, Samsung updated the Game Launcher app to support its DeX docking station. The company manufactures chips for AMD and Qualcomm, but it is being reported that Qualcomm will move to TSMC for its next-generation 7nm SoCs.

Samsung’s DeX notebook needs to evolve the platform to be taken seriously

A pretty wild rumor recently suggested that Samsung is developing a DeX notebook. Or, more specifically, the so-called DeXbook would combine the in-house desktop experience with Google's ChromeOS. It's a far-out idea but might work under the right circumstances. Or, at the very least, it would be a unique experiment to behold. However, as an […]
