[Poll Results!] Why are you not buying the Galaxy S9?

The Galaxy S9 has polarized the Samsung faithful. Some rushed to pre-order Galaxy S9 as soon as it was possible while others (Galaxy S8 owners in particular) have been debating the need to spend north of $700 on a device that looks like the one from last year and offers features that may not be used frequently once the novelty wears off.

It was reported yesterday that the Galaxy S9 is proving to be a tough sell for Samsung in its home country of South Korea. Customers aren’t that enthusiastic about the new flagship as it doesn’t bring any major changes and it’s actually the Galaxy A8 (2018) that’s proven to be a hit there as customers appreciate the revamped iteration of Samsung’s premium mid-range device more.

We have seen many comments from our readers as well which suggest that they have decided to not purchase the Galaxy S9 as they can’t justify the cost of a new flagship device merely for camera improvements and features like AR Emoji and Super Slow-motion video. The case is certainly different for customers looking to upgrade from the Galaxy S7 or an earlier device but not for those who already own the Galaxy S8 or Galaxy S8+. Samsung has tried to appease those customers by offering generous trade-in values for existing devices but this is limited to select markets only.

If you’re a Galaxy S8 owner or just a Samsung fan that’s not impressed by the new flagship, we’d like to know why you have decided to not buy the Galaxy S9. Is it because the device doesn’t provide enough value for money or would you rather just wait and see what Samsung does for its 10th anniversary Galaxy handset next year? Vote below and let us know your thoughts on the matter in the comments section.

Results: As expected, the majority of those who participated in this poll say that it doesn’t make sense for them to upgrade to the Galaxy S9.

Won’t buy a Samsung till the Bixby button is gone. My S7 is still fantastic although I am now considering Huawei Mate 10 pro or maybe Mate 11 pro next November.

I sold my S8 to buy a Pixel 2. I love the Galaxy S8/9 hardware but two things stopped my buying an S9. The Samsung software layer on top of Google software, duplicate apps everywhere, and the much faster firmware updates on the Pixel. If Samsung released an Android One version of its flagship I’d buy within two minutes!

But how many of the new features in each Android update already exist in older versions on a Samsung? My original Note already had floating video windows and dual app windows, for example. I think Android got there eventually. I find it strange that people decry as “bloat” the features in Touchwiz, and then hail them when they belatedly turn up in “pure” Android 12-18 months later. As for ‘duplicate’ apps, Samsung Internet is widely seen as better than whatever comes with Android, the email client is great – as far as I’m concerned the ‘duplicate’ is the rubbish that… Read more »

Where’s “waiting for a Galaxy S9 Active” ? Because I think that’s where I’m at.

I hace a Note8, Will wait Note9 or 10, or whatever!… Note8 its still a valid flagship for 2018 at least until next generation , of course.

Where’s the “Because I bought an S9 plus” option? Just kidding. Lol. If I had an S8 I’d wait, I have Note8, and maybe will wait for Note10. But if you had an S7 or S7 Edge it would be well worth the upgrade.

I wonder if Samsung is reading all these negative comments in recent months. Sammobile should at least make Samsung aware of the current trend of annoyance and growing unsatisfaction against them.

I’ve joined here very recently and to be honest I have to agree. Ok, at times some criticism can be warranted, nothing is perfect, for example software updates could be faster, but there is a constant flow of negativity which isn’t good. I saw one comment from a chap who said he was writing to Samsungs marketing boss to register a complaint. I don’t know if he ever did. Not everybody who writes here are so anti Samsung and I’m not saying this particular writer is, but there is definitely a serious bias here which I find a bit surreal… Read more »

I’m siorry i upgrade to the “Snapdragon Variant” . Neither Samsung, nor T-Mobile, BOTH being in the UK would not ship me a Exynos Variant. I WILL NOT buy another Samsung Device UNLESS its an Exynos Variant or they put “OEM UNLOCKING” back where it belongs on the Snapdragon Variant.

Get this, Samsung UK sells the Exynos Variant, which out-performs AND comes with 128GB internal storage AND the best part, the Exynos being the better device is around $100 USD cheaper then the 64GB Boot Loader LOCKED S9+.

I’m really thinking about returning it,,,,

because i bought iPhone x, i had s8plus and also Note 8, was never satisfied with samsung, they are making lot of mistakes, the only thing samsung is little better is that you do things little faster on samsung but thats the credit of android…sorry for samsung and good luck

I am holding on to S7 Edge 128 GB dual sim. I use one sim slot for personal sim and the other for work sim. The phone satisfies all my requirements
1. Dual sim
2. High internal memory (because of hybrid dual sim)
3. Front FPS
4. not as tall as S8+, S9+ etc
S9+ costs a fortune in India. When S7 edge becomes completely useless, I will buy previous year’s note flagship 🙂

Huawei managed to implement Project Treble on some old phones, even though they didn’t have to. Samsung didn’t do so for it’s current flagship at the time. I get it, they are not forced. But it would have shown a sign of interest in their part. That shows their dedication for future updates. Haha. Selling my S8 Plus today. Switching to iPhone 8 Plus and in the autumn going Pixel. No more Samsung for me. Nothing new comes with updates. When a new flagship comes, old ones are forgotten. I get it, these are the times. But when I look… Read more »

I think like you. Agreed 100%. I will pass to pixel only if is not built by lg. Lg never will have my money!
If this year,lg will be with pixel, I stay with my s8+.
Cheers

Sold it. Got an iPhone 8 plus. Couldn’t be happier. I don’t want to suffer with Samsung again. It’s either iPhone or Google from now on.

Every year they promise the software is better, the interface is faster and updates will come in time.

Update time: surprise mf. We’ll give you no new and interesting features, the ones we give you will only be android related.

Ahhh

And we’ll delay the update until the new, exact copy paste flagship comes.

I’ve done the biggest mistake last year when I spend 900 USD on Note 8. this will be my last Samsung Experience. I’ll go back to Iphone

preime101

why downgrade? Is it the Updates? Oreo offers very little for the Note 8 as it doesn’t come with project Treble and Samsung are finally rolling out the monthly security updates on all Note 8s after some serious lag. Performance? The iPhone offers nothing more aside from the crippling limitations of iOS. Camera? Again no iPhone beats the Note 8. Security? The Note 8 has the iPhone beat as well with Knox. As for features? Does the iPhone support dual sim? expandable memory? integral stylus input? DeX support?

Where’s the “I bought another phone” option?
I waited for the Pixel 2 as an upgrade from my S6. Almost bought an S8 last year, it was a painful few months. 🙂

Not much of a upgrade over the S8, in terms of battery life & aesthetics. Looking forward to what the Note 9 & next years 10th anniversary model provides.

Waiting for iPhone later on in the year, had Samsung since s2 then s3 s5 s6 s8 think time to move on, my s8 is really good but slow updates, Oreo finally arrives and my battery life is killed, battery will charge quicker now but drain much quicker, what did they spend a year testing?

I’m planning to upgrade from ny S7 (regular) which I have from launch to the Galaxy Note8. It looks more beautiful to me. Less edgy and more suqred, less rounded corners on the screen.

I still don’t have enough reasons to upgrade from my S6 edge. I feel like I’m not missing out on much except for the new design. Oreo is just a minor update from Nougat and the S6 feels very fast even today

I’m not interested in either the S9 or S9+ (I’m a Note series fan) but I think that the target for both phones are not S8/ S8+ users so that first statement “Doesn’t make sense to upgrade from S8” is a little bit pointless, of course it doesnt especially the S9.
I still think that releasing the S9 as it is now was a waste of time and resources. In my personal opinion releasing the S9+ as the only variant with 6inches would have been the right strategy.

Not everyone wants a huge phone or a brick in their pockets

SAMgalaxyXXX
SAMgalaxyXXX

And I agree but 6inch is not really that big by the current standard and “bezeless” trend. 5.8inch would have been equally good but I think 6inch would have been the sweet spot.
In any case my point is that only one with double camera lenses and 6GB of RAM would have been a better strategy.

Tbh the 5.8 screen size s8 is already large when compared to the like of the older phones like s7. However, given the slim width it makes the phone manageable as a one hand user friendly phone.

Stick the s8 or s9 on top of their plus model equivalent and the size is noticeable. Definitely the bigger phones are not comfortable when you are wearing a suit, especially a tailored slim fit one or even wearing jeans

SAMgalaxyXXX
SAMgalaxyXXX

Hahaha not everyone wears suits. Big phones are not made only for those who do not wear suits. However I wear a suit for work everyday and I always go for big phones especially Note and I see absolutely no problems with it. I even carry my tab S 8.4 in my pockets sometimes.
