Gear Fit 2 fitness tracker already discounted by $30

It has been around two months since Samsung launched its new fitness tracking wearable device called the Gear Fit 2. It was released in a handful of countries initially including but not limited to the United States, Germany, France and Spain. One of Samsung’s major retail partners has decided to cut the price of the Gear Fit 2 by $30 to entice people who might be considering it to take the plunge.

Samsung is selling the Gear Fit 2 for $179.99 but if you head over to Amazon you’ll find that the online retail giant has cut the price by $30 and is now offering it in black, blue and pink colors for $149.00 with free shipping. That’s quite a substantial saving on one of the best wearable fitness trackers that Samsung has ever made. The Gear Fit 2 has an embedded GPS and heart rate monitor and can automatically detect the kind of activity the user is engaging in. It also features a 1.5-inch Super AMOLED curved display and can function as a standalone music player. Unlike the original Gear Fit, the Gear Fit 2 works with any Android handset running version 4.4 or higher with at least 1.5GB RAM.

It astounds me that people would buy Fitbits over the Gear Fit 2.

I am not surprised the price has dropped the software is so bad.
What is it with Samsung and software?
Calorie counting is way off?
No weight training under exercise choice?

I agree, I’m a bit disappointed that they don’t really any app support. It’s a fitness watch basically, and the only additional features on top of that are that it syncs with S Health on your phone and shows phone notifications. I’d really like to control music from my wrist, other than only having support for Spotify. It needs a generic music player control like every other band out there. Wondering if I should have gotten the Microsoft Band 2 (or 3) after all.

As I know Samsung doesn’t want to have apps from 3rd party developers for Gear Fit 2. Only apps from partner developers might land on GF2. I think it is BIG mistake. The band have a great hardware performance and user want to have a lot of apps and they will see NOTHING.
