Samsung Electronics announced today that the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 edge have received eco-friendly certificates in four major markets which include the United States, United Kingdom, Russia and Brazil respectively. The certificates were awarded to these devices for the aspects that care for the environment. Underwriters Laboratories (UL) in the US awarded the Sustainability Product Certification to Samsung's new flagships and the UK's Carbon Trust honored the devices with CO2 Measured Label. Samsung actually received the highest grade Platinum certification from UL as the new devices meet rigorous criteria on energy efficiency, toxic material, recyclability, packaging as well as the manufacturer's social responsibility practices.

Russia's leading environmental organization called the Ecological union awarded Vitality Leaf certification to the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 edge, and the devices received the COLIBRI environmental quality label from Brazil's Associação Brasileira de Normas Técnicas (ABNT).

Samsung pointed out that packages of both new smartphones are made with 100 percent recycled paper and they satisfy criteria on toxic material. The company also revealed that 20 percent of the plastic in the battery charger is made from recycled plastic and instead of using petroleum solvents to print letters on packages and manuals Samsung used soy ink instead.
