The Samsung Developer Conference 2022 event started today. This is where the company showcases its new software features and platform updates every year. During the event, the company announced that it is making it easier for developers to design better health services through data from Galaxy Watch devices.

The South Korean firm announced the Samsung Privileged Health SDK program, Fall Detection API, and a health research solution for educational and clinical programmers.

TaeJong Jay Yang, Executive VP and the Head of Health R&D Team at Mobile eXperience Business, Samsung Electronics, said, “Samsung’s health foundation is rooted in our advanced hardware and sensor technology and is bolstered by our open ecosystem and collaborative approach. That is why I am excited to announce expanded developer tools, APIs and partner offerings that allow third-party experts, research centers and universities to advance wearable tracking and insight capabilities for a wider health, wellness and safety.

    Samsung Privileged Health SDK Program

With the Samsung Privileged Health SDK program, the company is partnering with select industry leaders to bring new preventive tools through data from its Galaxy Watch devices. For example, real-time heart rate data from the Galaxy Watch can be used with Tobii's eye-tracking technology to check a user's drowsiness and prevent driving mishaps.

Similarly, Harman's recently introduced Ready Care automotive solution can help drivers with safety and comfort. It can use data for distraction, fatigue, and vital sign sensing and can provide drivers with alternative routes to lower their stress levels.

    Fall Detection API

Samsung is also introducing a new Fall Detection API, which developers can use to offer adjustable sensitivity settings. Developers can design apps that can detect a user's stumble or fall while they're still, moving, or exercising. This solution can help in building even more preventative safety features and solutions.

    End-to-end health research solution

Samsung also announced an open-source, end-to-end health research solution by combining its health SDK, backend system, and portal for a variety of health applications. It can offer incredible health insights to hospitals, health institutions, wellness centers, and more.

Various health institutions and research teams can then design modules that enable participants to join a health study in a frictionless and informed way. The new solution streamlines the onboarding process and participants informed. The health data is also kept safe and encrypted.

Health Connect system for better control over fitness and health data

With the shift to the Wear OS 3 platform for its new smartwatches, Samsung designed the Health Connect system in collaboration with Google. It is currently in beta form and offers a centralized way to safely transfer health and fitness data from one brand's platform to another.

App developers and brands can use the Health Connect system to fetch health and fitness data and offer deeper insights into a user's health and well-being.
