Motorola is coming back with a brand new foldable phone to compete with the Galaxy Z Flip 4. Unlike previous years, when RAZR phones had mid-range hardware, this year's RAZR is filled with high-end hardware, including a high-refresh-rate screen and bigger camera sensors.

The Lenovo-owned firm was supposed to launch the RAZR 2022 and the X30 Pro a few days ago, but the launch was postponed due to China-Taiwan-US tensions. Nevertheless, the launch will now take place on August 11, one day after the unveiling of the Galaxy Z Flip 4. Ahead of the launch, most specifications of the Motorola RAZR 2022 have been revealed.

Motorola RAZR 2022 vs. Galaxy Z Flip 4 specifications: What's different?

    Motorola RAZR 2022 Displays

It features a 6.7-inch Full HD+ foldable OLED screen, just like the Galaxy Z Flip 4. However, the RAZR can achieve a refresh rate of 144Hz, the highest ever on a foldable phone. It also features HDR10+, a billion colors, and DC dimming. Motorola has also improved the hinge, which now folds the screen with a minimal crease and an inner folded radius of just 3.3mm.

On the outside, the phone has a 2.7-inch display that allows users to use some apps, reply to messages, check widgets, and capture images. The company seems to have copied Samsung's Flex Mode feature to offer side-by-side multitasking and a ‘Tripod Mode' for the camera. It allows for stable selfies and smoother timelapse videos.

Speaking of the cameras, the RAZR 2022 has a 50MP primary camera with a 1/1.55-inch sensor, OIS, and 1µm pixels (2µm with 4-in-1 pixel binning). It also has a 13MP ultrawide camera with autofocus (for macro shots). The foldable phone also features a 32MP selfie camera in the punch-hole-shaped screen cutout.

Similar to the Galaxy Z Flip 4, the new RAZR phone is equipped with the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor. It features 8GB/12GB RAM and 128GB/256GB/512GB internal storage. At 3,500mAh, it might not have as big a battery as the Galaxy Z Flip 4 (3,700mAh), but it makes up for the smaller battery by offering better cameras and a smoother screen.

Pricing and global availability will decide whether RAZR 2022 can compete with Galaxy Z Flip 4

It remains to be seen how Motorola prices its upcoming RAZR phone and if it will be available in more important markets like Europe and the US. The one sore point of this year's RAZR device is the lack of an IPX8 rating, something that's available on the Galaxy Z Flip 4. Would you prefer Motorola's foldable phone over Samsung's?
