The Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22+, along with their respective LED View Covers, have passed through the FCC this week in anticipation of their eventual market release next year. The Galaxy S22 Ultra has yet to visit the regulatory agency but shouldn't be too far behind, given that all three phones are expected to make an appearance on stage at the same Galaxy Unpacked event in February.

Back in July, SamMobile exclusively revealed the model numbers that will be attached to the Galaxy S22 series, i.e., SM-S901x, SM-S906x, and SM-S908x, where ‘x' stands for a different letter corresponding to each market. The same model numbers — save for “SM-S908x” — were found at the FCC this week, and the documents hint at similar battery specs as before.

The FCC tested the Galaxy S22+ alongside a Samsung battery that carries model number EB-BS906ABY. If it sounds familiar, it's because the same battery was spotted at 3C a few months ago, confirming a rated capacity of 4,370mAh. So, even though the Galaxy S22 Ultra hasn't popped up at the FCC as of this writing, the S22+ entry lends more credibility to the idea that the Ultra model will be powered by a battery with a rated capacity of 4,855mAh.

The LED View Covers for the Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22+ have model numbers EF-NS901 and EF-NS906, respectively, but there's nothing too extraordinary about them.

Connectivity options galore but the base model might be missing out on UWB

Another interesting aspect highlighted by the FCC documents is that the Galaxy S22 series, or at least the Galaxy S22+ and Galaxy S22 Ultra, should take advantage of tons of connectivity standards. The FCC describes the Galaxy S22+ as a bar-type mobile phone capable of operating on a wide variety of GSM, WCDMA, LTE FDD, LTE TDD, and 5G bands, as seen in the screenshots below.

The Galaxy S22+ also takes advantage of UWB (Ultra-Wide Band), NFC, and Wi-Fi 6E, and of course, it supports wireless charging and power-sharing. But like the base Galaxy S21, the entry-level Galaxy S22 seems to be lacking UWB. Time will tell.

Samsung should unveil the Galaxy S22 series in February at Galaxy Unpacked, and release the trio of flagships later the same month.
