Samsung could launch as many as four Galaxy S27 series phones early next year and follow them up with an FE model later in 2027. Those four phones are rumored to be the Galaxy S27, Galaxy S27+, Galaxy S27 Pro, and Galaxy S27 Ultra.

The Galaxy S27 Pro would be a new addition to the Galaxy S lineup and is expected to share many specifications with the Galaxy S27 Ultra. While it may feature a smaller display and lack S Pen support, it could outperform its Ultra sibling in at least one area.

Galaxy S27 Pro could capture better portrait shots

Both phones are rumored to feature a 200MP primary camera with OIS, a 50MP ultrawide camera, and a 50MP telephoto camera using an All Lenses on Prism (ALoP) design. Reports suggest the Galaxy S27 Pro could offer 3.5x optical zoom, while the Galaxy S27 Ultra may feature 5x optical zoom.

If this information is accurate, the Galaxy S27 Ultra would need to rely on in-sensor cropping from the primary camera to cover zoom levels between 1x and 4.9x. The Galaxy S27 Pro, however, would only need to cover the 1x to 3.4x zoom range using sensor cropping from the primary camera.

Because of that, portrait shots captured at around 3.5x zoom (which is more suitable for portrait shots) on the Galaxy S27 Pro could potentially look better and more natural compared to similar shots from the Galaxy S27 Ultra.

So, if you frequently take portrait photos of people, the Galaxy S27 Pro could end up being the better choice for your needs.

The Galaxy S27 Ultra will likely remain superior for 5x zoom and longer-range shots because of its native 5x optical zoom lens.

Those who prefer a more compact device and don't need an S Pen might prefer the Galaxy S27 Pro over the Galaxy S27 Ultra, as the former is expected to feature a 6.43-inch OLED screen with QHD+ resolution and Privacy Display. The Galaxy S27 Ultra will continue using a 6.9-inch OLED screen with Privacy Display.

Both devices will likely use the same Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro for Galaxy chip, 12GB or more RAM, 256GB or more storage, 60W fast wired charging, and 25W fast wireless charging.
