The Galaxy S27 Ultra will be Samsung’s flagship bar-style smartphone for 2027. It is expected to feature a faster Snapdragon processor for improved performance, a new camera layout, a refreshed rear design, a brighter screen, One UI 9.0 software with Galaxy AI features, and a bigger battery.

The phone has not been announced yet, but based on current reports and rumors, here is everything you need to know about Samsung’s upcoming flagship.

Design and display

Most Galaxy S Ultra phones released since the Galaxy S22 Ultra have featured similar designs, but the Galaxy S27 Ultra could look different. On the rear, it may feature a redesigned camera layout, as rumors suggest the phone will include only three rear-facing cameras.

The phone is expected to use a metal frame with toughened glass on both the front and rear. It will likely feature an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance, similar to previous Galaxy S Ultra devices.

The device could feature a 6.9-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X screen with QHD+ resolution, a variable refresh rate of up to 120Hz, and HDR10+ support. Reports also suggest peak brightness could reach up to 3,000 nits.

The display may also include Samsung’s Privacy Display technology for improved privacy in public spaces. Other expected features include an in-display ultrasonic fingerprint reader and a bundled S Pen stylus.

Cameras

Samsung has used 200MP camera sensors in every Galaxy S Ultra phone since the Galaxy S23 Ultra, and that trend is expected to continue with the Galaxy S27 Ultra. However, the phone could use a newer 200MP sensor for the primary camera to improve image and video quality while reducing noise.

The device may also feature an improved 50MP ultrawide camera with autofocus. Its telephoto camera could reportedly use a larger 50MP sensor with a 5x optical zoom lens, optical image stabilization (OIS), and autofocus.

Compared to the Galaxy S26 Ultra and earlier Galaxy S Ultra models, the Galaxy S27 Ultra is rumored to drop the second telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom.

On the front, the phone could feature a 12MP selfie camera with autofocus. This camera may also work alongside a 3D face-scanning system powered by Polar ID for additional biometric authentication.

All cameras on the device may support 4K 60fps video recording. The three rear-facing cameras could also reportedly support 8K 30fps recording with 10-bit Super HDR and improved stabilization.

Hardware specifications

The Galaxy S27 Ultra is expected to use the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro for Galaxy processor paired with at least 12GB RAM and 256GB of internal storage.

The phone will likely support all major GNSS constellations, including GPS. Connectivity features are expected to include 5G with sub-6GHz and mmWave support, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0, UWB, NFC, and a USB Type-C port with up to 5Gbps transfer speeds.

Reports claim the device could be powered by a 5,500mAh battery. Since Samsung already upgraded wired and wireless charging speeds with the Galaxy S26 Ultra, no further charging improvements are expected for the Galaxy S27 Ultra.

The phone could therefore retain support for 60W wired fast charging and 25W wireless charging through Qi2.2-compatible chargers.

Software

The phone will likely run Android 17 and One UI 9.0 out of the box. Based on Samsung’s recent software update policy, the Galaxy S27 Ultra will likely receive Android OS and security updates for up to seven years after launch.

It could also feature Gemini Intelligence and newer Galaxy AI features with expanded on-device and cloud-based AI capabilities.

Pricing and availability

Samsung is expected to launch the Galaxy S27 Ultra in January or February 2027. The phone could start at around $1,300 for the 256GB variant, while the 1TB version may cost more than $1,800.

The device will likely become available for pre-order in select markets on the day of announcement and could reach store shelves roughly two weeks later.
