Galaxy A42 5G gets One UI 4.1 update without Smart Widgets

Last updated: March 24th, 2022 at 08:27 UTC+02:00

Samsung has started rolling out the One UI 4.1 update to the Galaxy A42 5G. The new software update also brings the March 2022 security patch to the mid-range 5G smartphone. One UI 4.1 debuted with the Galaxy S22 series and the Galaxy Tab S8 series earlier this year.

The new software update for the Galaxy A42 5G comes with firmware version A426BXXU3DVC2 and is rolling out in Italy. More European countries could get the update over the next few days. The March 2022 security patch fixes more than 50 privacy and security-related vulnerabilities.

With this update, Samsung has introduced Google Duo Live Sharing and the ability to turn off GOS (Game Optimization Service). GOS reduces gaming performance slightly to stop the processor from overheating and throttling, which can drastically drop frame rates and smoothness. The company was hit with the GOS scandal last month and had promised to offer the ability to turn off the GOS feature.

If you are a Galaxy A42 5G user in Italy, you can check for the new software update by navigating to Settings » Software update and tapping on Download and install. You can also download the latest firmware file from our firmware database and flash it manually.

Galaxy A42 5G One UI 4.1 features

The One UI 4.1 update brings Google Duo Live Sharing, which allows you to share your screen with your friends and family during a video call. You can even watch videos on YouTube or plan a trip together on Google Maps via Google Duo Live Sharing. The improved Quick Share feature lets you share Wi-Fi login credentials.

The company has improved the Color Palette feature. Samsung Notes gives you the ability to quickly take down notes while browsing. Unlike Galaxy S and Galaxy Note series phones, the Galaxy A42 5G hasn’t received the Smart Widgets feature as a part of the One UI 4.1 update. Samsung has also added Grammarly suggestions to Samsung Keyboard.

The built-in Gallery app gets the ability to add portrait effects to any image with a person in it. You can even adjust portrait lighting, convert unnecessary motion pictures into still photos, and erase reflections and shadows. Smart Switch now offers a customized way to import data from an older phone. The Galaxy A42 5G gets custom Virtual RAM capacity with the new update.

Samsung has improved AR Emojis, too, which means you can add background colors, keep the focus on your AR Emoji mask, and add GIFs from Tenor. With SmartThings Find, you can share things with other users to find lost devices together. You also get notified when you leave something behind.
