The star of the show at the next Unpacked will be the Galaxy S24 series. In fact, judging by the information that has emerged so far, the Galaxy S24 series might be the only one at the show. And if you are hoping for Samsung to join a new category of devices and announce the Galaxy Ring, you might be disappointed.
Story continues after the video
There's no evidence lending credibility to the Galaxy Ring appearing at the next Unpacked. Despite the relatively recent rumors and leaks, the Galaxy Ring still seems far from ready. So, unless Samsung managed to keep everything a secret for a spectacular “one more thing” moment, we wouldn't hold our breaths for the Galaxy Ring to show up on stage in San Jose.
As to when the Galaxy Ring might be released, well, last time we heard about it, market watchers were betting on a late 2024 or early 2025 launch.
The one upcoming Samsung product we might learn more about at Unpacked is Glass (tentative name), which is a new mixed-reality (XR) headset. Samsung first talked about its XR project at the first Unpacked event of 2023 when it announced the Galaxy S23 series.
At that time, Samsung confirmed it had joined forces with Qualcomm and Google to develop a new XR (mixed-reality) wearable. This new device will compete with Meta's headsets and the upcoming Apple Vision Pro, the latter of which is official and could go on sale on January 27.
We haven't heard much about the Samsung XR headset after the original February 2023 announcement, but the next Unpacked event would be a great place for Samsung to pick up where it left off and share more information about its progress over the past year.
So, even though we probably won't learn anything new about the so-called Galaxy Ring at the next Unpacked event, we might gain more insight into the next-gen XR headset and when we might be able to buy one. Stay tuned, and we'll keep you posted.
