It was reported last month that the launch of the Apple Vision Pro may have forced Samsung to delay the launch of its XR headset. It was speculated that Samsung's design team was forced to redesign their XR headset. The Samsung XR (Extended Reality) headset was initially planned for a February 2024 launch but has been postponed.

However, there is some good news for Android fans eagerly awaiting official information on the Samsung XR headset. While the Galaxy Unpacked event was mainly focused on the launch of the Galaxy Z Fold 5, Galaxy Z Flip 5, Galaxy Watch 6, and other products, Samsung's president of mobile experience, TM Roh, hinted that the plan for a new XR headset and its surrounding ecosystem is on track, and an announcement is coming soon.

Samsung and its partners should first launch a less ambitious product to understand the ground reality

As per a report by ZDNet, while addressing the AR/VR partnership between Samsung, Qualcomm, and Google, Roh said, “We are not looking to be happy about launching a single product or creating an ecosystem for one company. Like smartphones, what we are doing is opening an XR ecosystem. We are expecting an announcement in the not-too-far-off future.

TM Roh also added that the market for XR (AR and VR) would grow at a fast pace and could become ubiquitous as smartphones and computers. This information about the upcoming Samsung XR headset that Roh delivered also seemingly hints that an announcement is imminent. Although Samsung and Google have their hands in AR and VR territory, Apple has raised the bar with its ultra-premium Vision Pro. Samsung either needs to present a worthy product or start on a smaller and less ambitious path.
