A few weeks ago, it was reported that Samsung had finally made a deal with LG Display. Samsung will buy WRGB OLED TV panels from LG Display for its future OLED TVs. Now, it is being reported that LG Display will start supplying a small amount of WRGB OLED panels to Samsung this month.

Samsung Visual Display (the company's TV business) has reportedly placed a small order for WRGB OLED TV panels. TVs based on these panels will be launched by Samsung later this year. So, the South Korean firm will have a good mix of WRGB OLED and QD-OLED TV models in its 2023 lineup. However, the companies still haven't signed the final contract, and it all depends on the development and marketing costs. The TV market has seen a decline over the past year after the pent-up demand seen after the COVID-19 pandemic.

It is being reported that LG Display will supply 77-inch and 83-inch WRGB OLED panels to Samsung. The total panel supply is estimated to be between 200,000 and 300,000 units this year. Next year, LG could supply anywhere between 1 million and 1,5 million OLED TV panels to Samsung Visual Display.

Samsung launched its first OLED TV (S95B) in over a decade early last year. Earlier this year, the company followed up with two new models (S90C and S95C), and they both use QD-OLED panels made by Samsung Display. However, Samsung Display still hasn't made an 83-inch or bigger QD-OLED panel, and it isn't able to make as many QD-OLED panels as Samsung Visual Display needs. So, Samsung Visual Display was forced to go to LG Display to get more OLED panels in more sizes and quantities.

Samsung's 55-inch and 65-inch OLED TVs could be solely using Samsung Display's QD-OLED panels, while the 77-inch OLED TVs could use a mix of Samsung Display's QD-OLED and LG Display's WRGB OLED panels. It remains to be seen whether Samsung differentiates between the two panels with two different TV models, but current information points that the Korean firm might sell two variants with the same model number. The 83-inch OLED TV will solely use WRGB OLED panels from LG Display.
