Galaxy S23 Ultra’s S Pen can be inserted backwards without any damage

Back in 2015, when Samsung launched the Galaxy Note 5, some users ended up damaging their S Pen and the smartphone after accidentally inserting the S Pen backward in its slot. A small hook prevented the S Pen from coming out of the silo if it was inverted backward. But that isn't the case with the Galaxy S23 Ultra.

If you insert the Galaxy S23 Ultra's S Pen backward in its slot, it won't get damaged. It won't damage the smartphone, either. If you accidentally try to insert the S Pen backwards, it will travel inside the slot only slightly before stopping (we've tested this personally). And this design decision isn't new. Samsung has followed the same design since the Galaxy Note 7, which stops the S Pen from getting damaged.

Even when you consider the case of the Galaxy Note 5, it was a mistake on Samsung's part not to think about the possibility of the S Pen getting inserted backward. However, the company rectified its mistake back in 2016. So, you needn't be careful with Galaxy Note or Galaxy S series devices anymore.

What might disappoint you is how Samsung has not added any new stylus-based features on the Galaxy S23 Ultra. It has the exact same S Pen features as the Galaxy S22 Ultra, which, in turn, mostly carried over S Pen features from the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra.
