Samsung used the Snapdragon chip in all its high-end phones last year. This year, though, the company used the Snapdragon chip only in the Galaxy S24 Ultra, while the Galaxy S24 and the Galaxy S24+ used Exynos chips in most countries. In the coming years, Samsung will keep using Snapdragon chips in its flagship phones, and Qualcomm has confirmed this.

Future Galaxy S and Galaxy Z series flagship phones will use Snapdragon processors

During its earnings call for Q4 2023, Qualcomm revealed that it has signed a multiyear deal with Samsung to supply Snapdragon processors for future flagship Galaxy smartphones. The agreement starts in 2024 and talks about the Galaxy S24 series. So, we can expect at least a couple more generations of Galaxy S series and Galaxy Z series smartphones to use high-end Snapdragon processors. This also shows that Samsung might not use MediaTek processors in its flagship smartphones even in the near future.

Qualcomm said in its earnings call, “We're also announcing that we extended a multiyear agreement with Samsung relating to Snapdragon platforms for flagship Galaxy smartphone launches starting in 2024. The extended agreement demonstrates the value of Snapdragon 8, our technology leadership, and our successful long-term strategic partnership with Samsung.

Samsung is building its in-house ‘Dream Chip' for the Galaxy S25 series, and it reportedly uses Samsung Foundry's second-generation 3nm fabrication process. According to some reports, next year's flagship Exynos processor uses the ARM Cortex-X5 CPU core, five Cortex-A720 CPU cores, four Cortex-A530 CPU cores, and the Xclipse 950 GPU. Whether or not it can match Snapdragon 8 Gen 4's Oryon CPU core in performance and efficiency remains to be seen. This Exynos chip will also be a litmus test for Samsung Foundry's 3nm process.
