More Samsung devices get Google ARCore certification as Galaxy S23 misses out

Google's AR (Augmented Reality) capability is not hidden from anyone, and the company uses it to enhance the user experience. Google, for example, uses AR in its Lens app to provide features such as image translation, among others. Also, Google AR can be found on the Google Maps app for finding directions.

To bring the same AR capabilities to third-party applications, Google certifies devices, including phones and tablets, with its ARCore software development kit (SDK). Finally, Google has woken up from its slumber and added 15 Samsung Galaxy devices to its ARCore roster. In order to attain ARCore certification, a smartphone must meet performance benchmarks for camera operation, CPU capabilities, sensor accuracy, and more.

Google last updated the ARCore device list in July 2022. Here is the list that includes 15 Samsung devices that have received ARCore certification:

Surprisingly, the latest Google ARCore list does not include the recently launched premium flagships from Samsung, the Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+, or the Galaxy S23 Ultra. It's not that these devices aren't capable of receiving the Google ARCore certification since they feature top-of-the-line hardware, but the reasons are still under wraps. It should only be a matter of time until we see the names of the Galaxy S23 series phones embracing the list.
