Samsung just sold 400,000 rugged Galaxy devices in one go

Samsung has found a new business customer for its rugged Galaxy mobile devices. The company announced today that Samsung France got selected as a partner of the consortium co-sponsored by Airbus and Capgemini. As a result of this partnership, Samsung says it will work closely with Airbus to equip roughly 400,000 employees with Galaxy rugged devices.

The rugged Galaxy devices in question are the Galaxy Xcover 6 Pro smartphone and the Galaxy Tab Active 3 tablet. The Xcover 6 Pro was released this year and is one of the most repairable phones in the world, while the Galaxy Tab Active 3 is a bit older, having debuted in 2020. Presumably, Airbus picked the Tab Active 3 instead of the newer Tab Active 4 Pro to save costs.

400,000 rugged Galaxy devices are nothing to sneeze at

Selling 400,000 mobile devices in one go is quite an achievement. Smaller smartphone manufacturers struggle to reach that figure in the consumer market, yet Samsung just sold almost half a million rugged devices through this new business partnership. This could incentivize the Korean tech giant to continue designing new rugged devices in the future.

The director of the Business-to-Business Mobile Experience Division at Samsung Electronics France said, “We would like to thank Airbus for selecting Samsung as a trusted partner for this critical project. The innovation, quality, and resistance of our ruggedized mobile devices were all criteria of choice for Airbus.”

The Galaxy Xcover 6 Pro and the Galaxy Tab Active 3 have IP68 dust and water-resistance ratings and are MIL-STD-810H-compliant. They have a high degree of repairability, and both devices have user-removable batteries, which allow business users to hot-swap batteries and keep the mobile devices running without having to waste time near a wall charger or a power source. Consumer devices don't usually get these advantages, although the European Commission is working on making mobile devices more repairable.
