Samsung has announced that its technology will power DISH's 5G network in the US. The South Korean firm's networking arm will provide 5G O-RAN (Open Radio Access Network)-compliant vRAN solutions and 5G radio units for DISH's 5G network across the US.

Samsung Networks will offer 5G and RAN solutions, vRAN software, and O-RAN-compatible Massive MIMO radio units for DISH's 5G network. The company's radio will support FDD and TDD spectrum bands, including n29, n48, n66, n70, n71, and n77. Samsung's vRAN units offer the ability to use off-the-shelf servers while still performing on par with traditional hardware-based equipment.

Since the whole network will be based on cloud-native architecture, DISH can use multi-vendor hardware and complete various deployment scenarios. The US-based network provider is currently testing its 5G network using the Galaxy S22. It plans to use Samsung smartphones as a reference throughout its network deployment process.

John Swieringa, President and COO of DISH Wireless, said, “Samsung's 5G solutions will play an integral role in our network expansion, giving us the flexibility to deploy our cloud-native network with software-based solutions that support advanced services and operational scalability. We look forward to working with Samsung, whose industry leadership in vRAN and O-RAN innovation will help support our vision of delivering open, interoperable cloud-based 5G services to consumers and enterprises across the U.S.

Over the past couple of years, Samsung Networks has received 5G network deployment contracts from various cellular network carriers in Australia, Canada, Japan, South Korea, and the US.
