Galaxy phones could get improved Bluetooth Auracast in the future

Bluetooth 5.3 brought an exciting new feature called Bluetooth Auracast. It lets audio be streamed to multiple devices in the area, and that feature made it to Galaxy smartphones and tablets with the One UI 6.1 update. However, it is quite basic, and a more improved version could come to Samsung phones and tablets in the future.

Improved Bluetooth Auracast is being developed for Android 15

In the latest version of Android 14 running on Pixel devices and Galaxy devices, there is a way to create Bluetooth Auracast-based music streams that others can join. However, it is not very feature-rich or well-arranged, but that appears to be changing. While digging through the Android 14 QPR2 Beta 3 release for Pixel devices, Android expert Mishaal Rahman found that Google is building a more functional page for the Bluetooth Auracast feature. This page lets users share their audio with others or connect to nearby Bluetooth Auracast audio streams.

As you can see in the screenshots above, there is a dedicated page for Audio Streams under the Bluetooth settings section. Here, users can scan a QR code to join a Bluetooth Auracast-based wireless audio stream or create audio streams for audio playing on an Android smartphone or tablet. It reportedly will also have a button to change the Bluetooth device that a user wants to use to listen to audio and a section that lists all nearby audio streams. On the latest Android beta version for Pixel devices, this page is listed here: Settings » Connected Devices » Connection Preferences.

One UI 7.0 could bring improved Bluetooth Auracast experience to Galaxy phones and tablets

The page isn't live yet, and the code needed to be meddled with, which means Google could be building the feature for the next version of Android (Android 15). Once Google is done developing a more feature-rich Bluetooth Auracast experience, we expect Samsung to include it in One UI 7.0, which will likely be based on Android 15. The Galaxy Buds 2 Pro already features Bluetooth LE and Auracast capabilities, and the future versions of Galaxy Buds could get the same feature. Bluetooth Auracast is also included in Samsung's Neo QLED and OLED TVs, which were released in 2023 (or later).
