Galaxy S24’s 10-core Exynos 2400 benchmarked with okayish performance

Samsung's testing of the Galaxy S24 series is in full swing, as evident by the more frequent appearances of benchmarks for different Galaxy S24 models on Geekbench. Today, the base Galaxy S24, powered by the 10-core Exynos 2400 chipset, has been spotted on the website.

We've known for a while that the Exynos 2400 will have 10 cores, two more than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, which was confirmed in a Geekbench listing for the Galaxy S24+ a few days back. It will have a prime core running at 3.21 GHz, two cores clocked at 2.9GHz, three cores clocked at 2.59GHz, and four low-power cores clocked at 1.96GHz.

The benchmark scores in this particular instance aren't as good as the scores for the Galaxy S24+ (both Snapdragon and Exynos variants), but that's probably because Samsung hasn't finished making the necessary optimizations. It could also be a result of the base model throttling more as the smaller dimensions make the device harder to cool, though it's impossible to know the exact reason at this time.

Exynos 2400 expected to be used only on base and Plus Galaxy S24 models

The Xclipse 940, the GPU on the Exynos 2400, is based on AMD's RDNA 3 architecture. Samsung hasn't said how much the performance has improved compared to the Exynos 2200 and its RDNA2 architecture-based AMD GPU, but we can expect a significant jump considering that Samsung has effectively skipped a generation by skipping the Exynos 2300, which is what allows the Exynos 2400 to have 70% faster CPU performance.

The Exynos 2400 will only power the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24+. The Galaxy S24 Ultra is expected to be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 in all countries. The base and Plus models will also have Snapdragon variants, but they are likely to be limited to a handful of markets, such as the US and China.

The benchmark also reveals the Galaxy S21 has 8GB of RAM, which will probably be the only option for the base model. The device was running Android 14 when it was benchmarked, as one would expect. The One UI version isn't reported in benchmarks, but the Galaxy S24 series will come with One UI 6.1 (unless Samsung decides to change how it handles new One UI versions and updates, which is unlikely).

Samsung will be adding a lot of AI features to the Galaxy S24, taking advantage of the increased AI processing power on the Exynos 2400 and the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. Check out our exclusive report here for more details on that.
