Samsung fans shouldn’t have to wait years before a new Fan Edition device hits the shelves, as the company is seemingly working on a new Galaxy S21 FE (Fan Edition) variant and preparing it for release before the end of 2021.
Although not much is known about this mysterious addition to Samsung’s smartphone portfolio, the Galaxy S21 FE is expected to have qualities that are specific to Fan Edition devices. In other words, the Galaxy S21 FE should, in theory, boast features that fans want, all for an affordable, flagship-killer price.
The Galaxy S20 FE’s design was heavily-inspired by the standard Galaxy S20 and the Galaxy S20+, which means that the Galaxy S21 FE should follow a similar path. Although no Galaxy S21 FE renders have leaked thus far, the phone is likely to feature the same design language as the Galaxy S21 flagship series.
The Galaxy S21 FE should boast a camera housing design similar to the new flagship, and it will feature an Infinity-O display. The phone will ship in four color options including gray/silver, pink, violet, and white.
Update: Plenty of renders, including 360-degree ones, for the phone have leaked since it was first rumored. Check them out below.
SamMobile exclusively reported on the Galaxy S21 FE’s existence somewhere inside Samsung’s development labs, and we are aware of a few specifications. The phone will boast 5G connectivity and it’s expected to combine characteristics from both the base Galaxy S21 model and the Galaxy S21+.
A display with a high refresh rate is almost a certainty, and the device should ship with 128GB and 256GB of on-board storage. There’s no information regarding external storage so perhaps the phone will lack a microSD card slot the same way the Galaxy S21 series does. Or perhaps Samsung will give fans what they want and equip the Galaxy S21 FE with a microSD slot. Time will tell.
Update: The Galaxy S21 FE could have a microSD slot, as suggested by a certification the phone picked up in China. Furthermore, it may feature the Snapdragon 888 in some markets and the Exynos 2100 in others, just like the S20 FE launched with both Snapdragon and Exynos chipsets last year depending on market.
Samsung’s under-display selfie camera technology is not yet ready for the masses, and once it will be, it will debut with a flagship phone rather than an FE-labeled device. With that in mind, the Galaxy S21 FE should be released with an Infinity-O display.
The panel will likely have a 120Hz refresh rate and it could measure 6.5 inches, falling right between the Galaxy S21 and the Galaxy S21+.
No camera details for the Galaxy S21 FE have emerged thus far, but again, the phone will combine features from the Galaxy S21 and the Galaxy S21+, therefore a triple-camera setup for the new Fan Edition device is a relatively safe bet.
Update: The camera setup on the Galaxy S21 FE could be pretty similar to the Galaxy S20 FE, including an 8MP megapixel camera at the back for 3x-30x zoom. A 32MP camera might handle selfie duties.
The Galaxy S21 FE will ship with Android 11 and One UI 3 out of the box, presumably One UI 3.1.1 (earlier called One UI 3.5). The device should offer compatibility with services such as Samsung Wireless DeX and Samsung Pay. The phone will benefit from three major Android OS updates throughout its lifetime.
Availability and Price
The Galaxy S21 series was unveiled in January 2021, and the Galaxy S21 FE might not arrive before the fourth quarter of the year. The ongoing chip shortage is apparently to blame.
Price-wise, the phone could cost about the same as the Galaxy S20 FE did at launch, or around $700.
