Introduction
The Galaxy M52 5G was Samsung's second smartphone released in 2021 to feature the Snapdragon 778G chipset — the first being the Galaxy A52s 5G. They both occupy the mid-range segment, but the Galaxy M52 5G came a few weeks after the A52s and is missing some of the extra features that arguably make the A-branded phone the best mid-range choice of 2021. On the bright side, the Galaxy M52 5G is cheaper.
Design
When the Galaxy M52 5G got announced, Samsung made a pretty big deal about its slim profile. Indeed, the device is 7.4mm-thin, though the camera housing protrudes out and adds a bit of extra girth.
The phone has a rectangular camera housing design with a vertical camera arrangement, an Infinity-O display, and a side-mounted fingerprint scanner.
The back of the device has a glossy finish, and the paint job consists of thin vertical stripes running across the entirety of the back panel, from top to bottom.
Specifications
One of the highlights of the Galaxy M52 5G is the inclusion of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G 5G 6nm chipset. It features eight CPU cores separated into two clusters. Four cores operate at 1.8GHz, and the other four have a maximum frequency of 2.4GHz. The CPU is paired with an Adreno 642L graphics chip and 6GB or 8GB of RAM.
The Galaxy M52 5G offers only one storage option — 128GB. The memory is expandable via microSD. The battery has a capacity of 5,000mAh and 25W fast charging capabilities.
Other specs include Wi-Fi 802.11 dual-band, Bluetooth 5.0, and a USB-C port that will be more useful than ever before. That's because the Galaxy M52 5G doesn't have a 3.5mm audio port, so customers will have to use either a USB-C pair of headphones or a pair of wireless earbuds.
Display and cameras
The Galaxy M52 5G has a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED display. The panel is capable of a high refresh rate of 120Hz, which means that UI animations and mobile games will look smoother.
The display has a resolution of 2400 by 1080 and an aspect ratio of 20:9. The bezels are relatively thin, and the 32MP selfie camera sits behind a circular Infinity-O cutout.
As for the main cameras, the Galaxy M52 5G is equipped with a 64MP primary sensor that lacks OIS, a 12MP ultra-wide sensor, and a 5MP macro camera.
Software and features
The Galaxy M52 5G runs Android 11 and One UI 3.1 out of the box. But as it's usually the case with mid-range phones, certain One UI 3.1 features found on flagships are not available for the M52 5G. It doesn't have DeX or many productivity features, but it does include Single Take for the camera along with photo filters, Best Moments, Smart Crop, as well as video hyperlapse.
Availability and price
The Galaxy M52 5G was announced in India on September 28 before hitting the shelves on October 5. Amazon announced promotional launch prices as low as INR 25,999 ($349) for the 6GB model.
