In addition to not really revealing a lot of unknown details, Samsung's first Unpacked event in its home country also disappointed many of us because the new devices aren't exactly brimming with major hardware upgrades. The Galaxy Z Fold 5 and the Galaxy Z Flip 5, in particular, are too similar to their predecessors and make sense mostly for first time foldable buyers or those wanting to upgrade from a Galaxy Z Fold 2 or the original Galaxy Z Flip.
Basically, Samsung failed to make this event exciting. And it also missed the chance to wow us with a “one more thing” moment once again. It's a complaint we have had about previous Unpacked events as well, and it doesn't seem like Samsung is interested in that feedback.
While previous events needed such a moment because leaks had ruined the surprise element, this time there's also the fact that there simply aren't enough upgrades on offer, as mentioned above. Samsung could have done something simple like teasing the Android 14 and One UI 6.0 beta for its smartphones or the Galaxy Ring that it is reportedly still working on, but decided to make only the usual announcements before bringing the curtains down.
Hopefully the next Unpacked event, which will be for the Galaxy S24 series next year, won't be so underwhelming. Even if the Galaxy S24 smartphones are the best thing since sliced bread, it will be great if their unveiling would be accompanied by something people don't expect instead of just the standard proceedings where we hear about stuff Samsung could have announced through a simple press release.
