T-Mobile rolls out Tizen 3.0 Value Pack update to the Gear S3

The Gear S3 Classic and Gear S3 Frontier on T-Mobile are receiving the Tizen 3.0 Value Pack update. The update weighs 265.88MB and bumps the version number to Tizen 3.0.0.1.

Tizen 3.0 brings major changes

The Tizen 3.0 update for Gear S3 brings major changes to the user interface and functionality. The update brings improved heart rate monitor, nutrition management features, optimized widgets for the circular display, improved navigation through bezel rotation, ability to create contacts and reminders, app sorting options, etc. The Value Pack update also adds the functionality to use the Gear S3 as a remote control for compatible Samsung IoT-enabled devices, PowerPoint presentations, Gear VR, etc.

The Gear Sport was the first device to run Tizen 3.0. Samsung is now bringing the same update to Gear S3 Classic and Gear S3 Frontier. The roll out of the Gear S3 Tizen 3.0 update hasn’t been smooth for Samsung. The update was first released towards the end of November. Battery drain complaints by the users forced Samsung to halt the update. Samsung released a revised update for the Gear S3 owners couple of weeks later. The current T-Mobile update should include all the changes made by Samsung to address the battery drain complaints.

You can read our impressions of the update here and here.

Hi don’t bother downgrading to Tizen 2, i did yesterday did a full reset, clean install, not as bad but still 50% gone in 12hrs.

The issue has to be with the Gear app (mobile), recall on the Gear 1 this issue where it constantly talked to the watch, but that was fixed.

Come on Samsung you idiots sort it out.

Like to know how you did that and where you got the software from.

It gets worse, just got my 15% warning, i was at 50% (4hrs ago), this is even worse.

Usage and setup is the same – biased to power saving, limited notifications, brightness 6, wake up and bezel off.

Now 24 hrs since new update and used 30% battery. It still used to be better than this.

After the update I charged fully, and 24 hours down to 63% after being on cellular for a few hours and a few text messages. Gear app says main drain is “watch faces” 26% “notifications” 19% with a varying estimate of remaining time “calculating usage.” While I haven’t had many updates in the last 6 months, about two, this one hasn’t taken a toll on my battery. I reset the watch about a month ago and restored my apps from the phone.

Since both Tizen 3 Upgrades. I now get the weather app notifying me at 00.10am every morning even though I have tweaked it and switched it off it still keeps notifying me. Was happier with original version. At least that worked. Pity you cant do a rollback as you can with the phone and Odin.

Update arrived in the UK finally, the constant PIN notification has gone! THANK GOD, it made using the Gear S3 impossible!. But battery life is still terrible. had it off charge for an hour and its down by 4%. the 3 day battery life I was getting has gone down to 1. Not very impressed Samsung. since the first Tizen update I was getting out of work with it on 54% – nothing changed. but glad to have the PIN notification gone

Updated yesterday a 21MB update to get to 3.0.0.1, reset the watch after install, 12hrs later 50% gone, so even worse.

Only Samsung can screw up a great product and looks like they have.

Latest update doesn’t fix anything.
100% drop to 90% in one hour.
Will discharge itself in the charging cradle.
Malaysia version.

Have you tried resetting the watch? Do a backup first if you haven’t tried yet.

Yes I did on both update. No help at all.
Occasionally show “Phone too hot, need to cool down”.
I still prefer version 2.0, at least I can get 80% after 10 hour of use.

This S2 Tizen 3 was released before the initial S3, for the Bluetooth model, not sure about carrier variants.

Its in the UK this morning. Just updated. As of yesterday morning when my battery went flat and after a full recharge it used 50% battery in under 24 hours. Hopefully update takes it back to my usual 4 day usage.
