Realme does what Samsung probably shouldn’t and copies Apple

One of Samsung's smaller rivals in the Android world of smartphones has borrowed an iPhone feature for one of its latest devices, the Realme C55. More specifically, Realme has just announced the C55 featuring the “Mini Capsule,” or what appears to be a blatant copy of the Dynamic Island from Apple with a touch of Samsung's Edge Lighting.

With this move, Realme has done what Samsung hasn't. We always felt like Dynamic Island was a solution to an Apple problem, and Samsung shouldn't buy into it. But Realme did just that and released its own version of Dynamic Island called Mini Capsule. It shows information at a glance regarding fast charging, step count, walking distance, and other metrics, including data usage, which will be available later through an OTA update. (via GSMArena).

Dynamic Island or Edge Lighing clone?

The Realme C55 has a 6.72-inch Full HD+ display with a circular cutout for the selfie camera rather than a wide notch like the more recent iPhones. The Mini Capsule extends out of the selfie camera cutout and not only is a copy of Dynamic Island but resembles Samsung's old Edge Lighting feature. Except it seems to have more functionality and be a part of the default experience offered by the proprietary Realme UI 4.0 for Android 13.

Realme is bringing this C55 phone with a Dynamic Island clone to Indonesia, but it's unclear if it will compete with Samsung and Apple's iPhones in other markets. The C55 has 8GB of RAM and 256GB of expandable storage. It's powered by the Helio G88 chipset.

Meanwhile, Samsung and Apple continue to lead the smartphone segment globally, with Apple beating Samsung 8-to-2 in terms of phone model popularity. Could Dynamic Island be the feature that makes iPhones as popular as they are? Realme seems to think so, but Samsung is probably wiser to avoid this gimmick.
