Among many other things, such as improved multi-window and pop-up view, a shared family album, and better integration between the Camera and Expert RAW apps, Samsung's One UI 5.1 may have brought one of the smallest of UI changes to date. It's a change that could be labeled “eye candy” or an “Easter egg,” but one that may also help users differentiate between connected Bluetooth audio devices.
Before One UI 5.1, it didn't matter which Bluetooth audio output your phone used. As far as the UI design was concerned, the volume slider would always show a Bluetooth symbol, whether you'd output audio to a pair of Galaxy Buds or a nameless Bluetooth speaker.
With One UI 5.1, this small UI detail has changed. Now, when a Galaxy smartphone outputs audio to Galaxy Buds, the volume slider on the handset is accompanied by a small Buds-shaped icon.
On the other hand, when connecting your phone to an external speaker or soundbar, you still get the usual Bluetooth icon on top of the volume slider as before. At least this is true when using a soundbar manufactured by a different brand rather than Samsung.
As of now, we haven't tested a Samsung soundbar with this new feature. But we're guessing this small UI detail in One UI 5.1 might be reserved for Galaxy earbuds. Either way, it might help users identify Bluetooth audio outputs easier, or at the very least, it's a nice Easter egg.
In case you are looking to buy a pair of Galaxy earbuds and see this small Easter egg for yourself, Samsung currently sells the latest three models at a discount, including the Galaxy Buds Live for $89.99 (down from $149), the Galaxy Buds 2 for $99.99 (down from $149), and the latest Galaxy Buds 2 Pro for $199.99 (down from $229).
