New leak suggests the Exynos 2200 will pack serious firepower

Samsung's Exynos 2200 chipset has made a few appearances on popular benchmarking platforms. Its Geekbench showing was quite underwhelming, though. Thankfully, it did a whole lot better on the graphics-intensive GFXBench. Now, a new leak spills the beans on the Exynos 2200's clock speeds but leaves out a few key details. The leak also tells us that the Exynos 2200 sample found on Geekbench was running at reduced speeds.

Prolific leaker Ice Universe has just revealed that the Exynos 2200 will have three CPU clusters. The ‘prime' Cortex-X2 core will be clocked at 2.9 GHz. The next cluster will have three cores operating at 2.8 GHz and the final one will have four cores clocked at 2.2 GHz. While it isn't explicitly mentioned, the former will very likely use ARM's new Cortex-A710 cores and the latter Cortex-A510.

Ice Universe also adds that this particular configuration will be exclusive to the Galaxy S22 Ultra. The Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22+ could be configured differently.

The Exynos 2200's AMD GPU will be blazing fast

We've seen the AMD Radeon-powered GPU on the Exynos 2200 decimate all competition many times now, probably because it is clocked at a whopping 1,250 MHz. To put things in perspective, that is almost as much as the desktop-grade Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 Ti. This information sits in line with an earlier report which told us that the GPU would operate at 1,300 MHz.

While the Exynos 2200's specs look good on paper, cooling it will be quite the challenge. The AMD GPU's release got pushed back by a year due to bad thermals. That might not happen again, but the final product could be nerfed a little to keep temperatures in check. For the most part, the GPU could still outperform the competition, but we can't say the same for the CPU.

Samsung has long struggled with keeping its chips chilly, and the Exynos 2200 could prove to be the most daunting challenge the company has to face so far. If it does, the Exynos 2200 has the potential to be the most powerful Android SoC of the generation; something that will help Samsung regain the market share it lost over the years.

There is a practical use to your Galaxy S22’s thick camera frame

There is a practical use to your Galaxy S22’s thick camera frame

The Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22+ were the last in the S series to feature a protruding frame around the rear-facing cameras. Subsequent models, such as the Galaxy S23/S23+ and Galaxy S24/S24+, abandoned this design element in favor of independent circular rings surrounding each lens. We're big fans of Samsung's minimalist but careful design, and […]
