As usual, the Galaxy S22 series is expected to feature an Exynos SoC in some regions and a chipset from Qualcomm in others. History tells us that the Exynos 2200 variant will go on sale in most markets, while the Snapdragon 898-powered models will be reserved for a few key regions such as the USA. However, Samsung might not follow the same strategy as before, and the Snapdragon variant could become available in more markets, including India.

Samsung is reportedly in the process of deciding which chipset goes inside the Galaxy S22 series in what regions. And according to @FrontTron citing Clien, the Snapdragon 898 SoC is “highly likely” to be used by the Galaxy S22 series in India.

This would be a first for the Indian market. So far, every Galaxy flagship released in India was powered by Exynos chipsets, but next year we might witness a big change in this philosophy.

Don’t get too hyped up over this possible outcome yet

Many Galaxy S flagship owners in Exynos regions have been asking for equal treatment for many years now. This is why, at first glance, the idea that the Galaxy S22 flagship series will introduce the Snapdragon 898 chipset in India sounds promising.

On the other hand, 2022 might be the year when Samsung’s in-house Exynos solution could be better than Qualcomm’s alternative. While both chipsets are expected to have similar CPU core configurations, the Exynos 2200 is likely to pack a superior AMD Radeon graphics chip, which has the potential of outperforming Qualcomm’s SoC. “Be careful what you wish for,” said the adage, and it could ring very true to Samsung Galaxy S fans in India come January.

On the other hand, neither the Exynos 2200 nor the Snapdragon 898 are official, and Samsung’s previous chipsets weren’t so bad in terms of graphics performance. Their biggest weakness compared to Snapdragon alternatives was power efficiency, and only time will tell which chipset will be superior in this regard next year. Not to mention that AMD doesn’t have much experience with mobile devices, so there are lots of variables to consider.
