The Galaxy A54 5G is Samsung's latest premium mid-range smartphone. In fact, one can argue that it's an affordable high-end smartphone as it comes with a lot of features that are usually seen on high-end devices. It has a high-brightness and high-refresh-rate OLED screen, a speedy processor, flagship-grade cameras, and four years of Android updates. So, is it worth upgrading to the Galaxy A54 5G if you already have the Galaxy A53 5G?

Well, the answer isn't simple. While the Galaxy A54 5G comes with some interesting upgrades, it may be worth upgrading only if you're unhappy with the Galaxy A53 5G's performance.

Galaxy A54 vs Galaxy A53: How are they different?

    Samsung Galaxy A54 5G Colors

Samsung has reduced the display size a little to 6.4 inches with the Galaxy A54 5G, but it also made it brighter at 1,000 nits with its Vision Booster feature. The new phone is protected by Gorilla Glass on the front and the rear, but it continues to use a plastic frame like the Galaxy A53 5G. The South Korean firm is continuing its tradition of offering an IP67 rating for dust and water resistance. It also features stereo speakers with improved bass and loudness. There's Dolby Atmos for audio and Voice Focus for calls.

The company has also improved its overall performance with the Exynos 1380 chipset. It's a 5nm processor with four high-performance Cortex-A78 CPU cores and a 20% beefier GPU, making it as good as the Snapdragon 778G chipset used in the Galaxy A52s 5G. The phone has a microSD card slot if you want more than 128GB/256GB storage that comes inside the phone.

Both phones use the same 5,000mAh battery with 25W fast charging, so their battery life won't be very different. The Galaxy A54 5G runs Android 13-based One UI 5.1 out of the box, and it will get four major Android OS updates, making it compatible with Android 17. That's one year longer than the Galaxy A53 5G.

Samsung has also improved the primary camera with the Galaxy A54 5G. It has a 50MP primary sensor with bigger pixels, improved OIS, and Nightography features. The company claims that the OIS now compensates for shakes and vibrations 50% more and is 4x more reactive. Both phones have a 32MP selfie camera, a 12MP ultrawide camera, and a 5MP macro camera. Samsung has removed the depth sensor, though. Both phones have an in-display fingerprint reader, 5G, GPS, Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.2, NFC, and a USB Type-C port.
