Samsung usually launches new Gear VR headsets alongside new mobile devices but that didn't happen today when the company formally announced the Galaxy Note 5 and the Galaxy S6 edge+ but Samsung co-CEO and mobile business head JK Shin says that the next Gear VR headset is coming “soon.” He didn't reveal the exact release date because he says that it's “a surprise.”
The first Gear virtual reality headset was released last year and it only worked with the Galaxy Note 4. Earlier this year in March the company launched a new one that works with the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 edge so today many expected a new Gear VR to be shown off that would work with the Galaxy Note 5 and the Galaxy S6 edge+ but no such announcement was made. Perhaps Samsung might show it off at IFA 2015 in Berlin where it's also going to unveil the Gear S2 round smartwatch, we'll be at the event next month to bring you all of the news as it happens.
