Apple's iOS 27 is already here while we wait for Samsung's One UI 9

September 14 may not be significant to Samsung fans, but it was an exhilarating day for iPhone users everywhere. Apple started rolling out the iOS 27 update on that date, and for us, it only serves as a reminder of what Samsung is doing wrong, or at least what it could do better.

We're referring to OS update schedules and rollouts. We've discussed this before, but Samsung still can't match the precision with which Apple controls new iOS releases.

What's different between Apple's and Samsung's firmware methods? In short, Apple is able to set the right expectations and then deliver.

In more concrete terms:

Meanwhile, Samsung still hasn't announced a concrete release date for One UI 9, more than a month after the first Galaxy devices (the Galaxy Z8 foldables) that come preloaded with One UI 9 went on sale.

One UI 9 is still in beta testing for older devices, including the S26 series, with no concrete release date in sight. The closest we've gotten to an announcement was a Samsung Community forum post a couple of weeks ago, claiming that the stable version of One UI 9.0 for the Galaxy S26 series will roll out “soon.”

Well, it hasn't been soon enough. And, you guessed it: Once Samsung does start rolling out stable One UI 9, it won't go as smoothly as iOS 27. Rollout dates will vary not only by device but also region.

September 14 has reminded us once again that if there's anything Apple does better than Samsung, it's how it handles firmware updates. Samsung's method has improved in recent years but still can't hold a candle to Apple's well-oiled update machine.

The good news, at the very least, is that One UI 9 on the latest Samsung foldables works like a charm. Hopefully, the same experience will translate to other Galaxy devices once they receive the stable update, whenever that may be.
