Samsung Display has unveiled its most advanced OLED screen for smartphones yet. It uses the M16 OLED material and can reach a peak brightness of up to an eye-blinding 10,000 nits. However, Samsung's own phones won't be the first to feature this display, as it has already debuted in the latest iPhone 18 Pro series and the iPhone Duo.

In the Android camp, Samsung Display's M16 OLED panels will first appear in the iQOO 16, which went official today. Reports indicate that they will also be used in the Galaxy S27 Pro and the Galaxy S27 Ultra early next year.

The M16 OLED was detailed during the iQOO 16's announcement earlier today in China. Falling under Samsung Display's LEAD 2.0 series, it features a WQHD resolution (2,560 x 1,440 pixels), LTPO technology for a variable refresh rate ranging from 1Hz to 165Hz, up to 2,800 nits of global peak brightness, and 1.24x DCI-P3 color gamut coverage.

Other features of the OLED panel include 3,300Hz pulse-width modulation (PWM) dimming, a 5,000Hz touch sampling rate, an anti-reflective coating, a polarizer-free design (on-cell film, also known as OCF), and up to 30% lower power consumption than the previous generation.

It was previously rumored that Google used M16 panels in the Pixel 11 series, but today's announcement makes it clear that the Pixel 11 lineup is likely using a previous-generation OLED panel from Samsung Display.
