TL;DR

  • Samsung has ended software support for the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 after five years on the market.
  • Both phones already got their final major upgrade to Android 15 in 2025 and will no longer receive security updates.
  • Owners who want ongoing protection are encouraged to upgrade to newer Galaxy Z models with longer update support.

Five years after launching the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3, Samsung has ended software support for the two foldables.

Samsung launched the eighth generation of its foldables in late July 2026 and put them on retail shelves in early August. The Fold 3 and Flip 3 completed five years on the market that same month, which means they are no longer eligible for software updates.

The Fold 3 and Flip 3 launched with Android 11 and One UI 3 and received Android 15—their final major OS upgrade—in 2025. Since then, both phones have received only security updates, but those have now come to an end as well.

This is hardly surprising. Before Samsung upgraded its update promise for flagship devices to seven years in 2024, Galaxy devices received a maximum of five years of software support.

It's time to upgrade

Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 owners who want to remain protected against the latest vulnerabilities and security threats should now consider upgrading.

Flip 3 owners can make the jump to the Galaxy Z Flip 8. Galaxy Z Fold 3 owners who want a newer model with the same familiar form factor will want the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, while the Galaxy Z Fold 8 offers a new form factor with wider and shorter cover and foldable displays (just keep in mind that neither device supports the S Pen).

All three Galaxy Z8 devices ship with One UI 9 (Android 17) and will get software updates for seven years, or until 2034. They offer several features not available on Android 15 and older, including AI features such as My FanCam, Now Nudge, Now Brief, and Creative Studio.
