If you're using the Galaxy Z Flip 4 in 2025, you really got the best mileage out of your device. You experienced all four major OS upgrades, and your phone likely defied durability expectations.
But even though you have a fairly long history with your Flip 4, now might be the best time to consider an upgrade to the latest Flip 7 model. You might not get a better opportunity. Here's why.
There are technical and economic reasons why now might be the best time to leave your Galaxy Z Flip 4 behind. Let's start with the technical ones.
As we hinted at the beginning of this article, the Galaxy Z Flip 4 has received all four major Android OS upgrades it was supposed to. Apart from switching from One UI 8.0 to One UI 8.5 next year, the Galaxy Z Flip 4's firmware journey is coming to an end.
Meanwhile, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 ships with Android 16, and Samsung says it will support it with seven major OS upgrades.
The Galaxy Z Flip 4 was the last in the series to feature a small 1.9-inch cover display. It's neat, but it's not as usable as the 4.1-inch cover display of the latest model.
The experience enabled by the larger cover screen is quite unique. You have a widget-based UI that you can interact with and do much more.
Apart from this factor, let's not forget that the Galaxy Z Flip 7 is superior in every other aspect, including water resistance, build quality, display brightness, performance, cameras, and more.
Finally, you should consider the economic side of things. In the USA, the Galaxy Z Flip 4 is the oldest phone in the series to still hold a decent trade-in value. The Galaxy Z Flip 3, not so much.
Black Friday prices are now up at Samsung's e-shop in the USA, and if you want to exchange the Galaxy Z Flip 4 for the Z Flip 7, you can get a discount of $400.
Conversely, the Z Flip 3 is valued at only $75. There's no way to tell precisely when the Z Flip 4 will lose its $400 value, but it is next in line after the Flip 3. Now might be your last chance to get a good trade-in deal for a new Flip model.
