Google turned to Samsung to develop and manufacture its first-generation in-house processor. The Tensor chipset, which debuted with the Pixel 6 series, was made on Samsung's 5nm process. The South Korean firm will also make the next-generation Tensor chipset, which will debut with the Pixel 7 series.

It is being reported by the South Korean publication DDaily that Google's next-generation Tensor chipset is already being fabricated by Samsung Foundry using its 4nm process. Moreover, the South Korean firm is also using the PLP packaging technique to improve the yield by minimizing discarded edges. This will result in lower production costs.

While not much is known about the next-generation Tensor processor, we can expect it to use the latest ARM CPU cores and the latest ARM GPU. It could have two Cortex-X2 CPU cores, two Cortex-A710 CPU cores, and four Cortex-A510 CPU cores. It could also feature the powerful Mali-G710 GPU used in the MediaTek Dimensity 9000 chipset.

Last year's Tensor chipset used older CPU cores, so it would be interesting to see how the next-generation Tensor processor performs as it is using the latest CPU cores and fabrication technology. Samsung's 4nm process has received negative reviews due to throttling issues found in the Exynos 2200 and the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1.
