Hot on the heels of Qualcomm's new chipset announcements, MediaTek has launched three new smartphone processors: Dimensity 1050 5G, Dimensity 930 5G, and the Helio G99. All these chips are made using TSMC's 6nm manufacturing process, which has proved to be excellent for premium mid-range chips.

We might see Samsung using some of these chipsets in its mid-range Galaxy smartphones.

    MediaTek Dimensity 1050 5G

The Dimensity 1050 5G is MediaTek's first smartphone chipset with mmWave 5G compatibility. Yes, you've read that correctly. None of the company's previous 5G chipsets were compatible with mmWave 5G networks. Hence, none of them were used in a mid-range or high-end smartphone launched in the US.

The Dimensity 1050 5G uses four ARM Cortex-A78 CPU cores clocked at 2.5GHz, four ARM Cortex-A55 CPU cores clocked at 2GHz, and the ARM Mali-G610 MC3 GPU. The GPU can drive up to Full HD+ 144Hz displays and offer support for AV1 and HEVC codecs. It supports LPDDR4 and LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 2.1 and UFS 3.1 storage chips.

    MediaTek Dimensity 1050 Specifications

The ISP in this chipset supports up to 108MP camera sensors or 20MP+20MP dual-camera simultaneous image processing. It supports up to 4K 30fps video recording, HDR, dual-HDR video capture, multi-frame noise reduction, depth mapping, and AI-powered noise reduction.

Connectivity features of the Dimensity 1050 5G include mmWave and sub-6GHz 5G networks in SA (Standalone) and NSA (Non-Standalone) modes. It also supports dual-frequency GPS, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, USB Type-C, and FM Radio. It will be available in affordable high-end smartphones starting Q3 2022.

    MediaTek Dimensity 930 5G

The Dimensity 930 5G is made for mid-range smartphones. It features two ARM Cortex-A78 CPU cores clocked at 2.4GHz, six ARM Cortex-A55 CPU cores clocked at 2GHz, and the IMG BMX-8-256 GPU. Similar to the Dimensity 1050 5G, this chipset supports LPDDR4X and LPDDR5 memory and UFS 2.1 and UFS 3.1 storage.

The GPU from Imagination Technologies supports up to Full HD+ displays at a 120Hz refresh rate. AV1 and HEVC video decoding and encoding are supported. The built-in ISP supports up to 108MP cameras, 4K 30fps video recording, AI-powered noise reduction, depth map processing, multi-frame noise reduction, and staggered HDR.

    MediaTek Dimensity 930 5G

Connectivity features of the Dimensity 930 5G include support for sub-6GHz 5G, SA/NSA networks, dual-SIM 5G, dual-frequency GPS, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, and USB Type-C port. Smartphones based on this chipset will be released sometime next month.

    MediaTek Helio G99 4G

The Helio G99 4G, as its name supports, is a 4G-only chipset and is a true successor to the popular Helio G96 processor. It features two ARM Cortex-A76 CPU cores clocked at 2.2GHz, six ARM Cortex-A55 CPU cores clocked at 2GHz, and the ARM Mali-G57 MC2 GPU. It supports dual-channel LPDDR4X RAM and eMMC 5.1/UFS 2.2 storage.

The Mali-G57 MC2 GPU can drive up to Full HD+ displays at 120Hz. The built-in ISP supports 108MP sensors, a 32MP sensor with zero shutter lag, or 16MP+16MP simultaneous processing with zero shutter lag. It supports 4K 30fps video recording, Full HD video recording at 120fps, HDR, AI-powered noise reduction, and depth mapping.

Its connectivity features include Cat. 13 LTE with carrier aggregation, dual-SIM LTE, dual-frequency GPS, Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.2, and the USB Type-C port. Mid-range smartphones based on this chipset will go official sometime in Q3 2022.
