According to a report from Korea Economic TV, Samsung will launch the Galaxy S24 series in San Jose, California, USA. San Jose is where Apple's headquarters, Apple Park, is located, and holding a launch event in Apple's backyard could be a bold marketing move from Samsung. The report corroborates an earlier report and claims that the Galaxy Unpacked 2024 event will take place 15 days earlier than the Galaxy S23, which was launched on February 1, 2023.
As a recap, you might want to have a look at our Galaxy S23 Ultra review video before the launch of the Galaxy S24.
The report also claims that the Galaxy S24 will be Samsung's first ‘AI Phone,' featuring on-device AI processing capabilities. On-device AI means the data isn't sent back to cloud servers for processing. To process such tasks locally, a chipset with a powerful NPU is required. The Galaxy S24 will be equipped with the Exynos 2400 or the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 For Galaxy, depending on the market. Both chips have powerful NPUs, with the Exynos 2400 being 14.7x faster than the Exynos 2200 that was used in the Galaxy S22. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 has an NPU that is claimed to be 98% faster than the one in the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.
Samsung is also rumored to use a titanium alloy frame for the Galaxy S24 Ultra, a move to counter Apple's iPhone 15 Pro series that uses a titanium side rail for the frame. The Galaxy S24 series is also expected to feature a brighter Dynamic AMOLED 2x screen with up to 2,500 nits peak brightness. The South Korean firm is also rumored to drop a 10x zoom telephoto camera with 10MP resolution in favor of a 5x zoom telephoto camera with a 50MP sensor.
