    Apple announces new iPad with support for eSIM

    Apple has announced an upgraded version of the 10th-generation iPad in China. The cellular variant of the tablet now comes with support for eSIM, and that’s the only change it brings to the table. The updated model will be available to pre-order in the country from October 19, 2023, and the company will start shipping it from October 25, 2023.

    The updated version of the iPad (10th generation) carries model number A3162. Currently, there’s no information if the new model has a physical SIM card slot. According to Apple’s support documents, the eSIM functionality on the 10th-generation iPad works only with China Unicom, which is the only carrier in the country offering support for eSIM.

    Apple hasn’t revealed if the company is planning to launch the eSIM version of the 10th generation iPad in other markets as well. However, if such a plan is in the works, the launch might take place in the next few weeks. Once the 10th-generation iPad with support for eSIM launches, the one with physical SIM could be available with discounts.

    Apple to launch six new iPad models soon

    Apple is said to be working on six new iPad models: 7th-generation iPad mini, 11th-generation iPad, 6th-generation iPad Air with two screen sizes, and two new iPad Pro models with different screen sizes. All these models are expected to arrive with iOS 17, which means that the upcoming tablets will break cover in less than twelve months (before September 2024). These upcoming iPads could compete directly with Samsung's Galaxy Tab S9 and S9 FE series.
